๐ญ Spin vs. Reality: Washington Confronts Addis Ababaโs Maritime Distraction ๐ช๐ท ๐บ๐ธ ๐ช๐น
For three years, the regime in Addis Ababa has pushed an aggressive campaign for "sea access"โa transparent diplomatic cover for territorial encroachment against sovereign Eritrean ports and coastlines.
When domestic crises peak, the Prosperity Party (PP) apparatus leans into PR distortion. The stark contrast between Prime Minister Abiy Ahmedโs framing of his call with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the official State Department readout reveals the persistent gap between rhetoric and policy reality.
๐ Anatomy of a Diplomatic Deflection
๐ด The Domestic PR Spin: Abiy took to X presenting the high-level engagement as a broad, cordial discussion of "bilateral cooperation" and "US support," attempting to signal uncritical international backing while facing mounting internal resistance. ๐ฑโ
๐ก The Direct US Readout: Secretary Rubioโs official statement cut through the narrative: Washington explicitly addressed heightened tensions with Eritrea, mandated strict adherence to the 2018 peace framework, and delivered a direct warning that all states must respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of neighbors and avoid cross-border incursions. ๐๐
๐ฃ "Sea Access" as an Escalation Vector: The obsession with capturing sovereign ports like Assab is an existential distraction from the armed resistance across Amhara, Tigray, and Oromia. The attempt to manufacture an external war to rescue internal authority has stalled. โโ ๏ธ
๐ข Washington Draws the Red Line: Coming off the heels of the US rescinding unilateral sanctions on Asmara and engaging directly with Eritrean leadership, Rubioโs warning signals zero tolerance for regional escalation or violations of international borders. ๐บ๐ธ๐ก๏ธ
๐ก Geopolitical Takeaway
"A leader who writes his own victories in tweets cannot erase the terms delivered in closed-door diplomacy."
The message from Washington, Cairo, Mogadishu, and Asmara remains aligned: borders are inviolable, littoral sovereignty is non-negotiable, and domestic crises cannot be exported across regional coastlines. ๐๏ธโก

Let us not mince our words and call a Spade a Spade!
1. The Potemkin Party has been obsessed/immersed in unparalleled military expenditure spree in the last three years.
2. In the last three quarters of 2026 alone, the regime has received 365 UAE Cargo/military deliveries for use in its multiple domestic conflicts and concomitant acts/designs of regional destablization.
3. At the same time, the regime has received - and these are conservative estimates - over 30 billion US Dollars in cumulative external financial assistance in the last eight years from several multilateral and bilateral donors.
4. And yet, almost 21.4 million people all over the country remain in dire conditions whose survival depends on humanitarian assistance.
In a nutshell, the priorities of this callous regime are crystal clear; reckless wars of delusional "grandeur" in lieu of the welfare of the majority of its people and enduring regional peace and stability.
Information Note Regarding #Eritrea-Ethiopia Relations
(Document circulated to UNSC Member States on 13 October yesterday in response to "Ethiopiaโs Note on Current Developmentsโ of 11 October 2026)
*"...Over the past three years, the Government of Ethiopia has sustained and progressively intensified its unprovoked war agenda against Eritrea under the rubric of acquiring 'Sovereign access to the sea, through negotiations if possible and force if necessary', in violation of the UN Charter and the 2018 Peace and Friendship Agreement between the two countries. Ethiopiaโs acts of aggression and destabilization include the pronounced establishment of a Naval Force with jurisdiction over and strategic depth in Eritreaโs southern coastal region".
*"...Taken together, these developments are tantamount to, and constitute, a brazen violation of Eritreaโs sovereignty and territorial integrity, in breach of the prohibition of the threat or use of force under Article 2(4) of the Charter of the United Nations".

#Eritrea: Foreign Minister Osman Saleh Sends Letter to the UN Security Council;
10 October 2026
1. In its communications to the UN Security Council yesterday, Ethiopiaโs Foreign Ministry has formally informed the UN Security Council that it is โtaking measuresโ to implement the war of aggression that it has declared against Eritrea for three-years now.
2. Ethiopiaโs deceitful attempts to rationalize its brazen acts of war against a sovereign UN member State in โself-defenseโ terms is hollow in substance and constitutes an insult to the intelligence of the international community.
3. Ethiopiaโs provocative acts of war and regional destabilization had in fact elicited the UNSG and many UN member States to issue coordinated Statements on the 25thAnniversary of the Algiers Agreement in December last year that underlined the urgency and imperative of respecting Eritreaโs sovereignty and territorial integrity.
4. But Ethiopia did not only fail to heed these warnings; it has gone further to incorporate and operationalize its long-planned invasion of Eritrea as part and parcel of the huge offensive it has unleashed in northern Ethiopia.
5. In the event, Eritrea requests the UN Security Council to forcefully condemn Ethiopiaโs deplorable declaration of war against Eritrea, which will inculcate huge devastation to the peoples of both countries and destabilize the whole region, and take the requisite deterrent measures against it in accordance with Chapter VII of the UN Charter.

Potemkin Party's characteristic behaviour of speaking with a forked tongue is again in full display.
In a Press Statement issued by the Ethiopian Foreign Ministry today in an apparent reaction to the El-Alamien Declaration, the PP pays lip-service to the pursuit of "peaceful engagement, mutual respect, and regional cooperation". It further urges "all regional actors to address shared challenges through constructive dialogue, partnership, and adherence to the principles of good neighborliness...".
But this is the crux of the matter.
The Potemkin Party's duplicitous antics aside, the prevailing tension that has gripped the Horn of Africa region emanates precisely from its perilous acts perpetrated over the past years and that violate international law and the prospects and opportunities of healthy regional cooperation.
Indeed, these are the poignant facts:
1. Ethiopia enjoys unfettered access to all ports in the Horn of Africa. In what can be termed as a "buyers market", it has extensive latitude to enter into mutually beneficial commercial agreements with all the coastal countries concerned. But the Potemkin Party chose to violate international law and the principles of good neighborliness to pursue an agenda of aggression and war against Eritrea to "acquire sovereign access to the sea".
2. As spelled out in previous public statements by its Foreign Ministry, the invasion of the Eritrean port of Assab must include the southern coastal zone too. In the PP's convoluted logic: "without the protective depth offered by the Dahlak islands, Assab remains an exposed coastal facility vulnerable to hostile naval power... any enduring arrangement for Ethiopia must therefore consider a dual reality: access to the coast and the strategic depth required to protect that access".
3. Similarly, the Potemkin Party has fomented unnecessary and avoidable tensions with Somalia and Sudan through willful acts that breach international law and impede regional cooperation. The illicit MOU that it signed with Somaliland in flagrant breach of Somalia's sovereignty and territorial integrity; the all-rounded support that it continues to provide to the RSF under the bidding of the UAE are deplorable acts that have jeopardized regional peace and security.
Finally, Ethiopia's insinuation that some geographic proximity to the Red Sea entitles it with the rights and responsibilities of the littoral States is too ludicrous and hollow in purely legal terms to merit response.
CAIRO โ โ ๏ธ After repeatedly ignoring concerns from #Somalia, #Sudan, #Eritrea, and #Egypt independenly, Abiy Ahmed, the regionโs self-appointed spoiler, has now managed to receive the same message from all four countries at once, straight from Alamein, Egypt.
The joint message from the Alamein Summit could hardly have been clearer: the Nile is not Abiyโs private swimming pool, the Red Sea is not a piece of real estate whose borders can be redrawn unilaterally, and the sovereignty and territorial integrity of neighboring countries are not bargaining chips.
There is still time for Abiy to demonstrate that โpeaceful coexistenceโ is more than a slogan. He could start by ending any support for the RSF militias in Sudan, dropping threats against Eritreaโs sovereignty and fantasies about "annexing" (capacities aside) Eritrean port city of Assab, respecting Somaliaโs sovereignty and territorial integrity, and accepting that the Nile is a shared resource, not a personal inheritance.
Four neighbors just delivered the same memo at once. At this point, the problem is no longer the message. It is whether Addis has finally learned how to read.
Potemkin Party political novices and minions (Abraham Belay et al) are mendaciously trying to weave a new "legal" pretext for the reckless agenda of conflict and war that the regime has been doggedly pursuing against Eritrea for more than three years now.
The transparent and pathetic ploy rests on re-packaging/couching PP's illicit agenda of war for "sovereign access to the sea" and projecting "naval military power with strategic depth in Eritrea's southern coastal zone" in the language of "self-defense".
But this wicked and deceitful approach cannot find currency or traction anywhere.
The indelible facts are - and this is in the public record as illustrated in the link below:
1. Potemkin Party's senior political and military leaders have been wedded to an expansionist war agenda and have made multiple provocative statements to that end in the past three years;
2. As corroborated by the testimony of none other than Getachew Redda, PP's aggressive agenda in fact precedes its first public pronouncement by its leader in October 2023.
3. Indeed, in August 2022 and while the war was raging in the Tigray Region, the Potemkin Party proposed to the TPL,F during the peace talks in Djibouti and Seychelles, "to bury the hatchet and join forces to invade Eritrea as the ultimate, common, enemy".
4. The Potemkin Party has also continued to host and sponsor notorious, even if inconsequential, Eritrean subversive groups (RASDO etc..) for the purposes of "regime change".
In a nutshell, and coupled with its myriad acts of regional destabilization, the culprit and source of instability in the region which continues to flout international law with impunity is, and remains, the Potemkin Party with its delusional aspirations of "regional grandeur".

President Isaias Afwerki and President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi held extensive talks, in new Alamien city earlier today, on the enhancement of bilateral ties, regional and international developments and trends, as well as other matters of mutual interest.
President Isaias Afwerki underlined the convergent positions of Eritrea and Egypt on regional matters; especially in regard to cardinal principles on respect of sovereignty and territorial integrity of nations and non-interreference in their internal affairs.
President Isaias further expressed appreciation for President el-Sisi's efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation in various sectors and for Egypt's goodwill and readiness to bolster these ties for the benefit of both peoples and countries.
President el-Sisi, on his part, invoked the profound historical and strategic ties that exist between the two countries, and reaffirmed Egypt's readiness to further deepen the prevailing warm bilateral ties through implementation of projects and programmes of economic partnership in priority sectors.
President Isaias will participate in the Summit of Heads of State on collective security, stability and partnership that will be convened in Alamien tomorrow.
On the invitation of President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, President Isaias Afwerki has departed to Egypt for a working visit in the early morning hours today.
During the visit, President Isaias will participate in the Summit of Heads of State on collective security, stability, and partnership.
The current Summit is a continuation of periodic forums on the wider neighborhood - the Red Sea Region, the Gulf of Aden, the Arabian Gulf as well as the Nile Basin - conducted through different platforms.
President Isaias Afwerki and President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi will also discuss further enhancement of bilateral ties during the visit.
Eritrea's firm position that any and all bilateral/multilateral cooperation and partnership agreements must be based on mutual respect, symmetry and the full and unencumbered political independence of the parties concerned is a matter of public record.
This Potemkin Party mouthpiece attributes the signature trademark of subservience and surrogate role of its own government to Eritrea.
Unfortunately, duplicity has become second nature to the Potemkin Party!

Ethiopiaโs Deplorable Acts of Hostility
https://t.co/kmkxALIAuG
*"...In reality, it is Ethiopia which has been pursuing an agenda of incessant hostility โ in effect, a publicly pronounced declaration of war โ against Eritrea for three years in pursuit of 'the imperative of acquiring sovereign access to the sea' through the invasion of sovereign Eritrean ports and coastal areas".
*"...Throughout these trying times, Eritrea has displayed patience and restraint in the hope of averting a dangerous escalation".
