Dr. N. G. Khaitan, President of ICA and Senior Partner at Khaitan & Co., in his Special Address, during the session on “ADR Tapestry: Weaving a Resilient Arbitration & Mediation Ecosystem in India” on the 15th september,2025 as part of the Delhi Arbitration Weekend 2025. Dr. Khaitan spotlighted that in many developed nations, over 90% of commercial disputes are resolved through mediation, which is regarded as a primary mode of dispute resolution, rather than a secondary alternative to arbitration. Commending the Indian judiciary for its pro-arbitration stance, Dr. Khaitan also praised the success of its mediation-driven initiatives, noting that over 14 lakh cases have been resolved through mediation in recent years, often at little to no cost.
He emphasized the urgent need to expand institutional arbitration in India and reduce reliance on ad hoc proceedings, which, despite common misconceptions, are not necessarily more cost-effective. To support this, he cited the example of China, which has over 300 institutional arbitration centers, in stark contrast to the limited number of credible centers in India. Strengthening institutional frameworks, he argued, is essential to building investor and business confidence.

Hon’ble Mr. Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra, Judge of the Supreme Court of India, delivered the Keynote Address session on “ADR Tapestry: Weaving a Resilient Arbitration & Mediation Ecosystem in India” on the 15th september,2025 as part of the Delhi Arbitration Weekend 2025. HMJ Mishra reaffirmed the judiciary’s commitment to building a robust ADR ecosystem and emphasized that, contrary to global perceptions, India’s ADR landscape has long moved beyond its infancy, though much remains to be developed. Justice Mishra expressed optimism about the progress made and the road ahead.
He praised the ICA, stating, “Few institutions in India have played such a sustained and vital role in promoting ADR adoption and usage, particularly in commercial arbitration, as the ICA has since 1965.” As India becomes the world’s fourth-largest economy, with ambitions to rise to third, Justice Mishra stressed that growth must be balanced across all sectors. Recognizing the importance of investment, particularly foreign investment, he emphasized that an efficient justice delivery system anchored by a strong ADR framework is essential to sustaining this growth.

The Symposium-cum-Roundtable organized by the Indian Council of Arbitration (ICA) on the theme 'Bridging Markets, Resolving Disputes via ADR in the India-Singapore Corridor,' held on 27th August 2025 at The Fullerton Hotel, Singapore, during Singapore Convention Week, set the stage for deeper India–Singapore ADR cooperation.

Mr. Arun Chawla, Director General, ICA in his remarks reflected on the longstanding partnership between India and Singapore, highlighting Singapore’s key role in India’s Act East Policy. He noted that “India and Singapore have indeed embraced change” and emphasized the symposium as a platform for institutional collaboration, knowledge sharing, and fostering investor confidence through efficient dispute resolution.
