@Waymoโd our way around SF!
Was not expecting to feel so comfortable in a self driving car! It was so cute! ๐ I was surprised how normal it felt without a driver - very human and pretty smooth ๐
Absolutely loved being a passenger princess with Wawa (we nicknamed the car) ๐ซถ
YouTube is a ticket to the extraordinary
One (really good) video turned Harvard student Wesley Wang into the youngest director in history to set up a movie at a major studio

Unedited Brain Dump!:
โWhat does it mean to say that data โmakesโ people or selves?โ
This is a question that can be answered in a variety of forms. I believe that it is always interesting to start off with the concept of earlier civilizations. Earlier on, people used to know the people around them. They would know their parents and where they live, the details of their lives to some extent. There werenโt that many people and so each person had a solid set of data points on the individuals around them.
As populations grow, and reach expands, empires form and large communities get together, you lose that personal connection and the ability to garner such a dense set of data points about individuals. Knowing about the people around you and how they act is crucial to the human condition. It is how we form our opinions, make our decisions on who to trust, and ultimately determine who we interact with.
Once there are more people to analyze - either because the ability to communicate with people is scaling or through an industrial and corporate environment etc, we need a way to gain this information, and that is why I believe we have pushed for a datafied world. It is an extension of the biological principles that we use to govern our relationships. When you can reduce a person to a set of data points, you can feel like you know them. Whether that is true, is up for interpretation, but the action of separating technological development from biological instincts is never an effective nor accurate way of understanding the human condition.
It is a shame just how much builders struggle in India - both societally and financially.
I keep seeing such absolute gems of young builders from the middle of nowhere. I cannot comprehend how they got so skilled.
One applicant lived without internet for a couple of years and still came out with an intuitive understanding of rockets.
One applicant is building a device that cancels all noises in a room with a toggle.
It is crazy.
Regardless, they can't fund themselves to come to The Residency for 3 months which only takes about $1000. And like always, it is likely this exceptional talent will not be used to its full potential.
And it isn't like the west where you can just work a job + do contract work to make money quickly.
But this shouldn't be the end for these people and I cannot let it be.
The reason I care about The Residency right to my core is because of how much I see myself in these people.
I took a gap year with two months of runway with nothing but a dream due to the frustration of not being able to find like-minded people. We chose Bangalore as the location to do the cohort next because of the sheer demand for talented people from India who want to be surrounded by other cracked builders.
And I will do everything to make this work.
With this in mind, we're looking for $5000 in donations to empower these builders and let them build at The Residency. This $5000 will go to 5 separate builders and give them time to work on their startup/research ideas full send.
These scholarships for The Residency are merit-based and will go first to low-income residents whom we've accepted into our cohort after thorough vetting.

We'll be announcing our donors in our newsletter next month.

Iโll be taking more bets on myself and showing up in hard situations. 2024 is my year of imperfect, consistent output and love for myself ๐
No better way to start the year ! Happy new year everyone ๐
