@esald013 I agree with you that student athletes need to be prepared for careers outside of sporting. Good counseling and mentoring is very much needed for these athletes #ucr50 @edavidsonhed
Strong support and counseling to student athletes is crucial as planning for after college is important. Not many athletes become a professional athlete so having career plans is essential. #ucr50 @edavidsonhed
@vejar_julissa @edavidsonhed I agree with you that student athletes are getting taken advantage of. they also put into an environment where there are rules controlling these athletes @edavidsonhed #ucr50
College athletes live a life where rules are “applied.. in ways that set them apart from the rest of the student population”. They are basically “born into a system that they did not create”.

@zayzayiscrazy @edavidsonhed I agree with how woman sports are not getting the same type of attention as men sports do. I think this a problem because I feel woman sports should receive a lot more media coverage, funding and overall more hype. @edavidsonhed #ucr50
Competitive cheerleading is beneficial to athletics as it “contributes to the collegiate ideal”(Toma, 2003; Toma, Kezar, 1999). Even till today, other women’s opportunities for sports participation have grown. @edavidsonhed #ucr50
@nfern019 @edavidsonhed Yes I agree. Creating a diverse community will ultimately help interracial relationships and will give more of a “home” environment
@edavidsonhed #ucr50
I believe universities should increase diversity on college campuses as it provides students with “more opportunities for interracial interactions and improving the climate”. @edavidsonhed #ucr50
@Alexisr162 @edavidsonhed I agree with athletes are held to a lower standard for their education especially in the D1 level. How can we change how athletes are judged and put to a lower standard than other students? @edavidsonhed #ucr50
Student athletes are being overworked by coaches and professors because they want different achievements. Student athletes shouldn’t be stereotyped as “dumb” or “lazy”. @edavidsonhed #ucr50
@tyraalogann @edavidsonhed Student athletes often have many support programs like tutoring, mentoring, and etc. Coaches also play a role in contributing to these athletes regarding their academics. These type of programs help athletes manage time better. @edavidsonhed #ucr50
Ultimately, this is a challenge college athletes face because all these accusations creates stress, which can affect the academic performances of the student athlete. @edavidsonhed #ucr50
There are “reports of scandal involving academic and social misconduct that flood the media”.These “accusations bring shame to the institution”. This shows how every athlete is being watched under a microscope. One mistake, and the institution may terminate you.
@kaorenae @edavidsonhed I think student athletes should get paid some type of amount if their sport they are playing creates revenue. It doesn’t make sense for an athlete to get paid when the sport they are playing spends more money than generated revenue. @edavidsonhed #ucr50
To add, the LSU football team alone brought in $56.6 million(TheAdvocate). After hearing this, I think the head football coach should receive a good amount of money. Please let me know your feedback especially if you disagree. @edavidsonhed #ucr50
Are coaches worth their huge pay packagers? This can be a controversial topic. These colleges coaches in particular for basketball and football, are making millions. I do believe that coaches deserve the pay because these teams also bring in millions of dollars.
@cbarr105@Kayzz_z @edavidsonhed Sure, the NCAA makes a good amount of revenue, but it’s also a non-profit organization. And I do agree with you that the NCAA can’t run without these student athletes.
As a student athlete, I experience the insights of intercollegiate Athletics. You see a lot of “dishonestly and unethical activity”. I experienced a kid yelling racial slurs at me during a game. I think this is a problem that occurs and should be worked on. #ucr50 @edavidsonhed
