@kkait98 @edavidsonhed I definitely agree with your statement. These athletes need an alternative plan of focus if being an athlete does not work out for them. They need the guidance and assistance needed in order to be successful in transitioning careers, but this is not happening
Researchers suggest that many students face multidimensional adjustment processes as they adjust to school work, discovering a new identity, and psychosocially establishing peer groups. I’m wondering what can we do to limit the impact of this to create a smoother transition
@Kayzz_z @edavidsonhed I personally feel this is not fair. These student athletes are expecting to be commited to the school for four years with their four year scholarship. Not renewing their scholarship is wasting their time when they could have been guaranteed the 4yrs somewhere else.
#educ50 @edavidsonhed I found it interesting that this quote “graduating from college is as important as winning on the field” explains the relationship between colleges and athletes. They advocate that they prioritize athletes educ but this proved otherwise.
@AlexisHale2021 @edavidsonhed Unfortunately schools don’t always enforce the support they claim to give. It has been stated that even 40 yrs later universities still don’t comply with the regulations #ucr50
@edavidsonhed #ucr50 Title IX was created to essentially prohibit differential treatment on the basis of sex etc if universities constantly advocate for creating such a positive supporting environment why after 40 yrs is there still colleges not compliant with this policy?
@tenzchoeying @edavidsonhed I definitely agree with this . I’m not sure why there’s not a focus in hiring a more diverse staff. This will help make a more supportive and beneficial experience / environment for the diverse students.
#Educ50 @edavidsonhed I found it interesting reading that white athletes with a higher % of black teammates have a more positive attitude towards black athletes vs when their in an individual sport. Why are black athletes looked more negatively upon when not on the team?
@Barker_21 @kaorenae @edavidsonhed I agree I feel that student athletics already have so many responsibilities as it is when they’re enrolled in the college balancing their schedules with school and sports. So at least Non athletes and athletes Should have the same entry requirements.
@edavidsonhed #ucr50 I feel for athletes and their mental health. I understand why some lose passion in playing, not only do they already have to deal with stress on balancing academics and sports but also facing stereotypical assumptions about their intellectual abilities.
@esald013@salfaro016 @edavidsonhed I definitely agree with your statement, even if they claim it is not mostly geared towards athletics it always will be due to the fact that these athletes create so much revenue and profits for the university so of course it would be prioritized
psychological stress comes heavily with being involved with intercollegiate sports. I wonder how these college athletes manage to balance academics and being successful in the sport. I know this takes a lot for an individual to overcome @edavidsonhed #ucr50
@tenzchoeying @kaorenae @edavidsonhed I definitely agree with this statement. Although we come to this conclusion that college athletes need to be compensated. We are then left with how much should they be paid?? In my opinion I feel that payment should be adjusted on the player and how much success they bring.
@edavidsonhed #ucr50 Coaches salaries make a bulk of where college sports spending is going, but athletes don’t receive enough. Reasoning for this is “athletes show low academic status and needs to focus on academics” so shouldn’t spending go more towards helping academically??
@kmart073 @edavidsonhed #ucr50 I definitely agree with this statement, athletes bring in so much money into the universities and gain these schools so much publicly and advertisement so of course when athletes are no longer good at their sport they no longer see a purpose for that specific athlete.
“Winning in college sports ultimately brings publicity to the entire university”. This is one of the key reasons behind compensating college athletes. These athletes serve as the college’s advertisement and the least the colleges can do is award these athletes. #ucr50
