Should student athletes recieve extra career planning outside of their athletics? Do they actually have back up plans of athletics don’t work out? #ucr50 @edavidsonhed
@Ld515253 @edavidsonhed @besavageee I think that many students want to continue their education and have a drive to learn, athletics simply take up much of their time @edavidsonhed #ucr50
Do you think it’s fair to tell student athletes that their four year scholarship could be taken after one year of poor performance? @edavidsonhed #ucr50
@AlecGonzo @edavidsonhed I like your thoughts here! It’s interesting to look at what is a “law” and how little it seems to actually influence when it comes to athletics#ucr50 @edavidsonhed
In 2008, 43% of coaches of women athletics were women- in 1972 the number was over 90%. Why has there been such a strong shift to make coaches? Women can do it too. #ucr50 @edavidsonhed
@moanapisia8 @edavidsonhed I would suggest SAs to use social@media but also make an stand on campus as well. Now that students are back on campus, SA could put in an event or a meet up on campus to help spread their thoughts #ucr50 @edavidsonhed
In lecture this week it was discussed how increasing compositional diversity provides students with more opportunities and improves the climate, so why is it that only 12% of head coaches in FBS schools are of color? #ucr50 @edavidsonhed
@e_cee007 @edavidsonhed I agree with you! The perception of athletes has an over arching effect on the climate seen at universities, so it’s important to fully understand both side of athletics #ucr50 @edavidsonhed
Student athletes are both students and athletes, emphasis on the order! Students! Just as much as athletes they still study, go to the library, attend office hours and socialize just like every other student.#ucr50 @edavidsonhed
@e_cee007 @edavidsonhed I agree, however we also should think about students who aren’t athletes. Do non athletes have the same experience considering they don’t get priority registration and extra academic help too? @edavidsonhed #ucr50
Student athletes must balance both school and their athletics. Looking at only 24 hours a day think about the pressure these athletes feel with practice, games, training, video review, a minimum of 12 units, study hall, etc. Where is the focus put? #ucr50 @edavidsonhed
@tyraalogann @edavidsonhed Hello! I agree with this thought! Although teams have an academic standard and gain priority on registration, I think there should be more focus on academics seeing that education is the main goal of universities.
It was shocking to see the map of the highest-paid public employees. 40/50 states had coaches as their highest paid employee and it makes you realize how pivotal and important athletic have become in our society and within the college community. #ucr50 @edavidsonhed
@salfaro016 @edavidsonhed While I agree that student athletes should be compensated, it is important to remember that many are here on scholarships and are given gear and other products. @edavidsonhed #ucr50
Intercollegiate athletes are seen a source of income and enrollment for a university. They are trained to play great, pass classes, and obey coaches. #ucr50 @edavidsonhed
