Any time you have water or glass shaders 🥤, and light— you will benefit from realtime caustics. The scene will be more beautiful and dynamic with them.

This is Unity URP, ~I've been using the same technique since the legacy pipeline. See 🧵 for references!

btw my proudest achievement in UE 5.4 is having introduced drop-downs for Name/String function params, no more hand-typed profile names in trace nodes! :D

and now you can do this for your own nodes too super simply: UPARAM(Meta=(GetOptions="FunctionName"))

There's an important thing to know about Unreal's packaging: by default it packages EVERYTHING, even assets you don't reference anywhere. This can severely bloat the size of your packaged game.

But it mostly affects smaller projects, why is that?

This is going to be a quick tweetorial on how to create cheap water bodies that should work in mobile (in theory). This doesn't require translucency or refraction to sell the effect. Let's start!

You can match your shader with HDRP material quality by adding Material Quality Keywords in Shader Graph.

Disabling Parallax with low material quality.

Was there a tipping point when people started making games that look like old games?

In 1995 we did *not* want games that looked like they were from 1985, & in 2005 we did *not* want games from 1995, but we do now in 2021?
