@GavinBarwell Regardless of personal opinion on the matter the “promise” was made by politicians despite voters in every election for the past 20 years voting in parties that promised them they would reduce immigration. Not one politician seems to believe breaking that promise is immoral
@Gabriel64869839 CCV is a rehash of the Fort/Type 23 original concept with more automation that will end up with GIUK patrol tasking while T26/45 (and successor) does the high end Carrier/Amphib escort duty. T31 takes over River 2 tasks while they come to do home water patrolling
@Gabriel64869839 CCV is going to be a Type 31 variant (a type 32?) so a 2029/30 start at Rosyth makes sense. By then the weaknesses of drones in the open ocean (rather than the short range Black Sea littoral) will be apparent and BAe will be tasked with an AAW version of T26.
@Prosper_UK_@GavinBarwell If they were truly skilled then that might be a worry but sponsors of “skilled workers” include vape shops, kebab shops, newsagents and car washes. I doubt the country is going to suffer if we have a few fewer deliveroo riders and their families emigrating to the UK
@Jonathan_Hinder Do you also want to show the income taxes for those states as well (in New York you would be paying less than 40% income tax all the way up to £100,000 dollars)
@CharlotteW_R@RichParkerLab services outside of London that the rest of the country endures. Hopefully that will encourage them to improve things. It’s telling that even Thatcher didn’t impose the same changes on London she did on the rest of the country (bus/transport privatisation etc).
@CharlotteW_R@RichParkerLab Because too many MPs are professional politicians parachuted into seats they have no connection with and who spend minimal time there once elected, the same goes for civil servants. Getting them out of London long terms exposes them to the conditions of infrastructure and
@siennamarla The reaction to No10 North proves exactly why we need it. The condescending attitude and aversion to anything outside London and the SE is on full view and explains how the rest of the country has been passed over for investment for so long
@GOPIsrael Of the top of my head that would be RAF Mildenhall, Lakeheath, Fairford, fylingdales, Menwith Hill, Croughton, Akrotiri & Trodos (Cyprus), Wideawake (Ascension Island), Diego Garcia - all are heavily used for operations, logistics, communications or intelligence
@GOPIsrael That’s absolutely fine, the US can look after their own interests but, if they side with Argentina then I suspect the UK government would come under huge public pressure to remove access to UK bases for US forces. Will Argentinian warm word make up for the loss of those?
@ColeFusionHQ He has a tax free allowance of over £13k on his dividends so, if he’s paying 22% overall then he’s taking home around 70k so paying a lot less tax than someone on PAYE
@ColeFusionHQ This is garbage- if he’s over the VAT threshold then he’s got a turnover of £90k+ and can recover VAT on inputs. There is no company tax in the uk but he’s only paying corporation tax on profits not income and paying 20.83% means he’s got a profit of near 100k.
@stuey_beef The public sector liabilities only really matter if a government decides to withdraw the schemes. They are designed in the same way that the state pension is, current workers contributions pay for current beneficiaries. The NHS scheme is due to pay the government £7 bn this year
@jnsulz If you’re in the UK and were an employee then get on to ACAS and file for an employment tribunal. Unless they have documents that show that you were failing your probation then it’s a straight up case of unfair dismissal under the equality act of 2010
@Wonton2785@maxtempers The state (via planning regulations) stops me from doing what I want with my land and therefore I’m not able to use it more efficiently. They can’t have it both ways- LVT or current planning rules.
@DanNeidle Genuine question because I must be missing something. You say that LVT taxes land not property but your model bases LVT rates around council tax bands which are based on property values. If I extend my band D house your model says my LVT goes up so that is punishing development.
@s8mb This is where successive governments have got net zero all wrong. They should have gone hell for leather on Nuclear rather than large scale renewables. The subsidies should have gone to domestic renewables, battery storage, heat pumps and EVs so that domestic bills are almost £0.
One of the most exciting infrastructure projects in Britain right now. If we could build tunnels like the Norwegians we could build new motorways and railways so cheaply that they could be self-funding. The biggest prize is Manchester to Sheffield. https://t.co/WpQQHwtzbz
@diskoBiscuits@thomasforth The drawback is proposing to reinstate the Woodhead line, the track bed of which is the route of the very popular transpennine trail and busy every day with walkers, runners and cyclists.
