MS NOW put me in Russia based on two anonymous sources. I was in Virginia, honoring law enforcement at Liberty University. The network had to correct its false report.
This was a basic verification failure. They were wrong about my location, and they are wrong about the successes of this FBI and our partnership with State, Local, and Tribal Law Enforcement. If a network cannot confirm where I was before putting it on air, how can the public trust its reporting on the work our agents and officers do every day?
This is bigger than a false story about me. The men and women of law enforcement deserve accurate reporting while they protect communities and take violent criminals off our streets.
Three apologies are owed: to this FBI, to the law enforcement community, and to the American People.

DID YOU SEE IT? Many of you were looking up at the sky early this morning and saw a spectacular, glowing trail that looked almost like a giant cloud or a space jellyfish.

This was associated with a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launch from Cape Canaveral, Florida, carrying a Dragon spacecraft on a resupply mission to the International Space Station.

So, what causes this unusual sight?

The rocket travels high into the atmosphere, leaving a trail of exhaust gases behind it. At those altitudes, the exhaust expands dramatically in the extremely thin air. The water vapor and other exhaust products form a plume that can spread into unusual shapes.

The sun can illuminate the plume even while the sky is still dark or just beginning to brighten here on the ground. The rocket and its exhaust are high enough to catch sunlight from beyond Earth's shadow, creating the brilliant, glowing appearance.

The trail can look like it's bending, spreading out, or even falling back toward Earth, but that's an optical illusion. The rocket is traveling along its flight path, and high-altitude winds help shape and disperse the exhaust plume.

This phenomenon is sometimes called a “space jellyfish.” It is a beautiful example of how rocket launches, atmospheric conditions, and the angle of the rising sun combine to produce an extraordinary sight.

No mystery, no unusual weather phenomenon, and no cause for alarm. Just a spectacular reminder that sometimes the most remarkable sights in our sky come from human exploration of space!
