I agree, fasting is hard, and trying to cut out all/most carbs is not easy, and I don’t think this diet works well b/c it requires a lot. As someone who eats carbs, giving them up is hard, and not something all people can do which is why this diet is not the best! @beh353#beh353
In free-living people, the failure of low-carb diets is obvious. Absolutely everyone who wants to lose weight has tried one, but obesity rates keep climbing.
And so, I think low-carb diets are fad diets.
I know lots of you disagree.
Thanks for listening.
@SamMontalto2 @beh353 Hi @SamMontalto2! I think making nutritional check-ins part of yearly check-ups will be a big help to patients as you can educate them based on their age what sorts of foods they should be eating, what level of nutrients their body needs, etc. I like your idea! @beh353#beh353
Final Post: This fall, I learned how vital it is to bring nutrition into my role as a PA! Nutrition is how our body heals, how it grows, how it stays healthy and doesn’t develop disease! I plan to work with RDs as a PA to ensure my patients have a solid diet plan! @beh353#beh353
@TamarHaspel Thank you very much for informing me that I misread that, I appreciate you explaining this to me so I can understand it better! That makes more sense that eating plant based meat would have at least a few improved markers for ⬇️ heart disease!!! @beh353#beh353
@AnthonyDeMarc07@beh353 I think you're misreading. This is the second paper out of that study. The first does show improved markers for heart disease risk. The second doesn't show improved markers for inflammation. Overall, there is a (small) benefit to eating plant-based meats in those quantities.
Week 13! I think this is a cool article to look at as some argue that eating animal meat over plant based meat is bad for one’s body and ⬆️ risk for disease, but this study shows plant based meat doesn’t truly help prevent heart disease more than regular🥩 does! @beh353#beh353
The SWAP-MEAT diet study found that, compared to meat, plant-based meat improved a couple of heart disease risk factors. https://t.co/Vxdbw74ooE
This follow-up found no advantage in markers of inflammation.

@IK_nutrition22 @EmmaDArpinoRD@beh353 Hey @IK_nutrition22! Nice post! I also learned that frozen produce is something that is beneficial to eat, and not a bad thing! I think we associate frozen with unhealthy food that we warm up (ex.🍕) and ice cream so we count out all frozen food when we shouldn’t! @beh353#beh353
@EmmaDArpinoRD! TY for your vid this week, it was very informative on RD’s and how healthcare profs must work as a team! A cool fact was about Vit C, and how we pee out excess and only keep what we need, so I will share this with my dad b/c he swears by EmergenC! @beh353#beh353
@taline261@beh353 Hey @taline261 Nice post! I think this is a good article too as it doesn’t inundate the patient with too much information, and gives them tips on what to include in a diet and how that’s good, and what is dangerous in the environment to avoid! I like this article! @beh353#beh353
It’s sad to see that the U.S. 🇺🇸 has a low score for the global estimate of diet 😞 for a nation that spends a ton of💰on war and puts💰into the pockets of millionaires, we MUST spend more💰on making sure kids are eating nutrient dense meals to develop properly! @beh353#beh353
https://t.co/m946YepvQ6 This is an article I would rec to my patients/their parents as a PA on why eating healthy is vital to proper develop.! This article is written by a reputable source, is easy to read, and isn’t too long! Offers many ways to eat well! @beh353#beh353 HPPY 🦃
I agree, and rather than ignoring patients with ailments who are overweight and blame that as the reason for their ailment, we must treat patients with compassion to solve their ailments, and can rec. a healthy lifestyle in a caring way as eating healthy heals us! @beh353#beh353
@taline261@beh353 Hi Taline! That is so awful how she starved herself, as no one should be forced or feel the need to starve themselves to ⬇️ weight! Providers must have empathy when treating patients, and should treat them humanely/listen to their concerns w/out discriminating! @beh353#beh353
From the vid, it’s sad how many MDs ignored patient’s pain/blamed weight as causing the ailment, rather than treating them. Its unjust to have a mentality that fat people are lazy, and not treat them right b/c of that belief! We owe our patients empathy/good care! @beh353#beh353
WK 10: Sleep affects obesity, as less sleep is related to ⬆️ obesity as it restricts hormones that regulate energy balance/metabolism! Also, 🚫 fatshame. Maher said, we aren’t born fat, but 🧬 disagree with this, and so does $, so let’s make eating healthy easier! @beh353#beh353
@fedoweadake@beh353 Hey Fee, I agree! I think it’s not only rude, but doesn’t inspire someone to work on their weight. No one knows the diff. lives people come from, and therefore shaming people who can’t afford to eat healthy, or someone eating to cope with depression doesn’t help! @beh353#beh353
WK 10: As many Americans struggle with obesity b/c of the cost of healthy food, it is good to see tips on how to purchase healthy food for less $! This will make it more accessible to people to eat healthier, and will ⬇️ the obesity rate long term and save lives!! @beh353#beh353
The barrier of $$ of unhealthy food. During school, I can’t work as much to make $, so when it comes to buying lunch, when I see a deal at McDonald’s for 4$ for a meal, compared to an açaí bowl for 13$, it’s hard to spend that $ everyday and afford to eat healthy! @beh353#beh353
I agree that our MDs should be taught about nutrition so that they can help to make better choices for their patients, and provide them good guidance/support! I also think it shouldn’t be limited to just MDs, but also PAs, nurses, etc. who get to study nutrition! @beh353#beh353
