I can tell you this, had RG not protested outside PMs residence and not stalled the parliament for a week, the state would've simply not done anything at all. Because it was a controlled dissent until actual students hit the streets.

Once CJP lost the control over the controlled dissent, they had to call it off. Hence the fastracked resignation accompanied by withdrawal.

If you think Indian tourists are making waves abroad, wait till you hear what Indian banks are up to.

Earlier this month, a remarkable event occurred, an entertaining saga in the world of finance. It concerns one of the Middle East's largest financial fraud cases: the collapse of healthcare group NMC Health, which was found concealing debt of more than $5 billion, and was later sold for just $1 to a consortium.

Bank of Baroda, India's second largest public sector bank, was being sued in Abu Dhabi in a case related to its loans to that group. In its reports and earnings calls, the bank dismissed the claims, expressing extremely high confidence of victory.

Then suddenly one day, after years of litigation, the bank suddenly agreed to a massive $600 million (~₹5,700 crore) out-of-court settlement. Nobody knows why.

Here is what's even crazier: This single payout was equivalent to an entire quarter's net profit for Bank of Baroda.

It's a bonkers amount by any standard. But even more astonishing is that the bank's total credit exposure to NMC was around US$253 million. So why was the settlement $600 million??

If the case against the bank only concerned the repayment of the loans, the settlement would've been in the same ballpark. So why did the bank agree to pay more than twice the amount it had already lent in the first place? Why settle for more than twice your direct credit exposure?

Turns out, the bank was being sued for more than just bad lending. It was being sued for more - for facilitating fraud and committing financial crimes. A criminal conspiracy.

Of course the bank admits to no wrongdoing and no liability. Everyone knows banks are saints that can do no wrong.

Sherlock Holmes had a standard principle: When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth. Ask yourself, what other explanation could there be? Why else would the bank agree to pay more than 2x what it has already lent? Especially after boasting of a strong case for years?

Of course this is not uncommon in the world of banking - which is possibly the largest criminal enterprise in human history. They commit evil, pay out YOUR money to keep the world quiet, and then portray themselves as altruistic angels.

So what really happened? Maybe we'll never know. Banks work in mysterious ways. The real reason why India's second largest public sector bank decided to give away ₹5700 crore of Indian taxpayer's money will probably never be publicly known. Just a few thousand crores lost in the sands of time.

It doesn't end here though. There's a post-credits scene.

Fast forward to today, less than a month later, the same bank has 1 TB of its data leaked on the dark web. One frigging Terabyte.

Customer details, identification documents, loan information, internal audit records, and more - all stolen and made public. One of the largest cyber heists in world history.
