PM Modi yesterday spoke about the rise in sports participation in India through events like Ironman, Hyrox and marathons. A quick story of how we ended up investing in these companies. In 2023, a few of us from Zerodha participated in Ironman Goa. Nithin, Vishnu and I did the relay and ended up on the podium in the corporate category. Nithin still thinks there wasn’t much competition, else we wouldn’t have stood a chance 😅
At the prize distribution, we met Deepak, the founder of Yoska, which operates Ironman in India. Two days later, we met Deepak at our office and everything he said on why they are building the sports in India resonated with how we think of sports as an anchor to live more active lifestyle. We decided to partner with him and Rainmatter invested in Yoska. Three months later, Deepak came back with another idea to bring Hyrox to India. It started with a cold email he sent to the founders in Germany. In May 2025, the first Hyrox India race happened in Mumbai and ~1600 people participated. It’s been 18 months and next month on September 2026, ~15000+ people are expected to participate in Hyrox Mumbai. When we first discussed bringing Hyrox here, I wasn’t sure India was ready for it. Turns out, we underestimated how ready India was and the enthusiasm and adoption have surprised all of us. Similarly, Ironman will have ~1600+ triathlates in Goa in November this year.
Across all @Rainmatterin companies from Hyrox, Ironman, Ironkids, Peakst8, Devil Circuit, Yodha, Fitpage & Sisters in Sweat we’ve seen ~2lakh people participate in sports events in last 12 months. And we’ve invested over 150cr in sports companies including Machaxi, Game Theory, Paradigm Sports, Stepout , Michezo and The Bridge with a smiple goal that Indians should have more opportunities to play, learn, train and participate in sports.
For the longest time, investing in sports in India meant investing in professional and spactator sports. I think next big opportunity is in helping more Indians play and particpate in sports.

Happy Independence Day 🇮🇳
The mountains. The rivers. The forests. The people. There is so much here that we forget to appreciate. Couldn’t have picked a better day to finish this.
Grateful for everything this country has given me. ❤️
An Indian engineer in Bengaluru got tired of potholes destroying his car.
So he built an app with Codex that detects them, finds who is responsible, and files a complaint.
Here is how it works. He installed a dashcam with GPS and an accelerometer. The app records everything while he drives.
A vision model classifies every pothole by size. Small, medium, large.
But here is the clever part. Most Indian roads are under warranty.
The contractor who built them is legally responsible for fixing potholes for free.
His app searches through 2,900 government contracts, finds the exact tender number, identifies the officer responsible, attaches the photo and geolocation, and generates a ready-to-file complaint.
One drive to work. 12 potholes detected. 12 complaints ready.

How did Mumbai become Rich?
Drugs. And in particular - Opium.
It’s illegal today but over 100 years ago it was legal.
It was so legal that British had a monopoly on its production.
Bombay merchants found a way around it. By sourcing opium from Malwa & exporting it to China.

🚨For those of you just waking up🚨
Vinesh Phogat, Olympic finalist at 50kg from India, missed weight this morning and will be disqualified from the tournament.
She was scheduled to wrestle American Sarah Hildebrandt in the finals today with an Olympic Gold Medal on the line.
Hildebrandt will instead wrestle Guzman, the Cuban wrestler Vinesh beat in last night’s Semifinal 5-0.
Vinesh, unfortunately will be leaving Paris with no medal.
Proposed Immediate Rule Changes for UWW:
1.) 1kg second Day Weight Allowance.
2.) Weigh-ins pushed from 8:30am to 10:30am.
3.) Forfeit will occur in future finals if opposing finalist misses weight.
4.) After a semifinal victory, both finalists’ medals are secured even if weight is missed on Day 2. Gold can only be won by a wrestler who makes weight on the second day.
5.) Give Vinesh the Silver medal.
This is interesting for many reasons.
I mean it's MULTI-TRILLION dollar company, being sued by the Govt. And not china, or EU (this time), but it's own Govt.
However, what makes this particularly interesting is that US companies have a history of being broken by their own governments.
AT&T, Standard Oil, American Tobacco etc. There are tons of examples.
In India's history, I couldn't find any good examples.
As far as I have understood, India tries to take a preventive approach than a disruptive one. Which also reflects in the mindset & risk taking appetites of our govts.
Now the TLDR of the case;
The Department of Justice (DoJ), along with 15 states, has filed a lawsuit against Apple, under Section 2 of the Sherman Antitrust Act.
It accuses Apple of monopolizing the smartphone market through anti-competitive practices.
Key complaints
1. Non-Apple smartwatches are limited in functionality
2. Limitations on the use of "super apps" like WeChat and KakaoTalk
3. No cloud streaming nor gaming services, as well as Apple Wallet's preference over other digital wallets.
4. Lack of interoperability, such as sharing videos between different platforms. They even highlight the "green bubble" issue.
Microsoft was sued similarly in 1990s
And guess who benefited indirectly? Apple. Looks like the tables have turned.
Apple won't go down easily. This case will probably take 5-10 years. But should the court find Apple to have established a monopoly? Potential outcomes could mean the end of Apple's walled garden.
