I cannot put my grief into words. But… #Pediatrics does not back down. We will continue to work days and nights and holidays and weekends to do the right thing for children and families. We won’t be silenced. We won’t be bullied.
We are children’s health experts and our life’s work is protecting our most vulnerable.
Game on.
The images from Al Aqsa Hospital are horrific and gut-wrenching.
Displaced families being burned alive. Where is the humanity?
This has been going on for over a year now. The U.S. must stop sending bombs and we desperately need a ceasefire.
On the heels of yesterday’s post about how impossible it is to work in America’s healthcare system, I woke up to an email requesting I fill out a productivity action plan to increase the “productivity” of the #PedsICU physicians because our “productivity” is “low” this month for the first time in THREE years and the variance has triggered an action plan.
For the last 3 years, everyone has been wringing their hands over how busy the unit has been and how to promote wellness in a unit that can’t catch its breath. We finally get the wellness we need….. a BREAK…. and now I have to fill out a “productivity action plan” to address the thing we all needed in the first place.
THIS IS BURNOUT

“The current situation in Gaza is catastrophic and words can’t describe it.”
In rare contact with one of our staff members in northern #Gaza, MSF nurse Loay Harb describes the situation there, including the lack of food and the medical support he provides where he can.
We no longer speak of a humanitarian scale-up; we speak of how to survive even without the bare minimum.

BREAKING: The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals just upheld a lower court’s injunction blocking enforcement of an Idaho law banning gender-affirming medical care for transgender people under 18.
This is a major victory for trans youth and their families.
The vast majority of people who are killed by heat or killed by cold are actually killed by poverty. It’s not a random act of weather, it’s the systemic violence of poverty
As we naturally compare specialties in the JAMA graph, it's important to also look what happens when you draw the axes out fully ⤵️
The overall burnout is the problem.

A thread: In case you haven't been following this, I think it's important to flag. Amidst the brutal attacks on healthcare facilities in Gaza, healthcare workers across the United States have been coming together to protest, mourn and raise the alarm.
