Trusting trust attack teaches us how crucially important GCC 4.7 is. This is the most recent GCC that doesn't require C++ compiler and can be compiled with just C compiler. And it can later be used to bootstrap everything else, including Rust, for example.
Because to bootstrap Rust you first need a C++ compiler to first get mrustc, with which you can compile the bootstrap compiler that's written in Rust, and only then you can get actual recent Rust compiler.
This is why GCC 4.7, even though it was released in 2012, is still maintained to this day!
