I already have one of these "i will miss the 1st class bc my court date is the same time. i'm innocent but still have to explain that 50 pounds of marijuana was my boyfriend's and i didn't know it was in the trunk."
Hey, everybody, how was your summer? Anybody else getting panicked last-minute emails from students with incompletes who had a year to finish their work and the year ends before the first day of class?
@anonymousprofs Wow. Iโm not sure using facts is how you change a studentโs mind and prove your argument. As faculty we MUST meet them where they are!
@nerdiejock@ccpecknold Well said, @nerdiejock. Many students view a stern prof who expects assignments turned in on time and well done, with attention to detail and honesty, as hating their students. We're tough on them because life is tough and we want them to succeed after graduation.
@jennaratrix Ours are online too, but writing style is easy to spot as well as common misspellings or punctuation quirks. And no, I hadn't done the recommendation letter yet.
I checked evaluations. Students need to know that we often recognize their writing even without their name. So here's a shout-out to the asshole who sent me a lovely thank-you note, asked for a recommendation letter, and then burned me in the eval. Bless your heart.
And I can't take you seriously if you've been sitting on the sidelines in support of Donald Trump & Roy Moore through multiple allegations, and you're now calling for Al Franken's head less than an hour after this story broke.
@IRBroadshow @anonymousprofs@raulpacheco I have a friend who stopped teaching and went back to freelance PR. Her salary doubled and she's only working 20 hours a week.
