I often wonder what parents will tell their kids as they become teens and adults. The honest answer is mostly that they pretended it wasn’t happening because doing something would have meant time, effort and activism. There again, most younger people are mostly ignoring it too
Wake up every morning. Say to yourself l "I do not consent to the destruction of life on earth."
It only takes 25% of the population to enact social tipping points. 25% to flip the system. In that I find hope in the #ClimateBreakdown

A poor objective! That intensity of young trees would have a high death rate. New plantations never compensate for mature trees. The supporting ecology is not there and tree monoculture is high maintenance. Better to have preserved more original trees.
The word "Anthropocene" falsely represents the predicament humanity is in. We are entering a near-explosive geological instant of high CO2, high global temperature and high sea level. That's an event boundary, not a geological era. And the cause is not anthropic, it's capitalist.

Your parents are right about some things and wrong about others. They're right that you have to work hard and finish things, but they'll tend to be too risk-averse and their taste in problems will be a generation out of date.
A sad day. In addition to his amazing research on batteries, John Goodenough's life is a story of making surprising moves in academia. A true inspiration. RIP
