πͺπ· LEGENDS & LEGACY: Inside Zurichβs Insane 35th Eritrea Independence Celebration! β¨
Some celebrations are loud, but #Eritrea35 in Zurich was absolute magic! π¨πβ¨ The energy was unmatched, but the true highlight of my night was a deeply humbling moment of connection with two absolute titans of Eritrean culture.
I had the immense privilege of meeting the legendary singers Eng. Asgedom and Mihret Zerhanes! π€π
Hearing their warmth and respect was incredibly grounding. I expressed my deepest appreciation for their lifelong devotion to Eritrean music and artsβthey have truly shaped the soundtrack of a nation's resilience.
Here is why this night will stay with me forever:
π΄ A Humbled Heart: Receiving praise from icons you deeply respect is a feeling words can barely capture. π΅ Cultural Giants: Eng. Asgedom and Mihret Zerhanes aren't just artists; they are living repositories of Eritrean history and spirit.
π’ Global Fever: While Zurich was unforgettable, Eritreans absolutely torched the scale globally this year, with the home celebrations topping them all!
"Art is the soul of a nation, and those who sing its struggles keep its freedom alive forever." π Watch the video below to hear my full reflection on this unforgettable encounter and the beautiful words exchanged!
Happy 35th Independence Day, Eritrea! πͺπ·π¦

Abiy Ahmed didn't realize the favor he did for the Eritrean people, both at home & across the diaspora. By testing our resilience, he brought us closer together than ever. Today, we stand united, celebrating our hard-earned independence with louder voices & stronger hearts!

Education: The Bedrock of #Eritreaβs Development and Social Justice; by Habtom Tesfamichael
(Paraphrased from Interview with Dr. Halima Mohammed, the Minister of Education)
*"...Significant achievements have been recorded over the past 35 years. The student population has grown from approximately 200,000 at independence to around 800,000 today. Schools have been constructed across the country, national curricula have been developed in all Eritrean languages, and ongoing efforts are being made to strengthen the teaching force by creating opportunities to enhance their qualifications".
*"...Nevertheless, important challenges persist. To address these challenges, the Ministry is focusing on expanding access, particularly in lowland and remote areas; reforming curricula to strengthen vocational pathways; improving teacher recruitment, training, and working conditions; decentralizing operations; strengthening research and evidence-based planning; modernizing schools with ICT, virtual labs, and digital libraries; and enhancing parental and community involvement. Greater investment in boarding facilities, laboratories, and teaching materials is also underway".
*"...As Eritrea marks 35 years of independence, its education system reflects both impressive progress and a clear determination to overcome remaining obstacles. The experience accumulated and the foundation built during these decades provide renewed hope and confidence. With sustained commitment, increased investment, and focused reforms, education will continue to serve as the very soul of the nationβs march toward social justice, harmony, and rapid development".

#Eritrea has raised potable water coverage from under 7% (1991) to over 85% (2026) through 125 billion #Nakfa in domestic investment. More than 8,300 schools and health facilities now benefit. This demonstrates that long-term national planning can deliver meaningful results & a development worth acknowledging. πͺπ·π§#Eritrea @UN_Water@FAO@UNEP@WorldBankGroup@AfDB_Group
