Michael Burry use the nickname "Cassandra" because Warren Buffett originally dubbed Burry a "Cassandra" during his official congressional testimony regarding the causes of the 2008 financial crisis.

In Greek mythology, Cassandra, a Trojan princess was cursed by Apollo so that her true prophecies would never be believed hence they “fell on deaf ears.”

She accurately foresaw disasters such as the fall of Troy (including the Trojan Horse) and repeatedly warned her people, but they dismissed her as mad or a liar. Her father even confined her at times. The city fell as she predicted.

During the sack of Troy, she sought refuge in Athena’s temple, clinging to the goddess’s statue. Ajax the Lesser dragged her away and raped her. She was then awarded as a war prize and concubine to Agamemnon, the Greek leader.

Cassandra foresaw that she and Agamemnon would be murdered upon their return to Mycenae by his wife Clytemnestra (who sought revenge partly for Agamemnon’s earlier sacrifice of their daughter Iphigenia, and partly over the concubine). She warned him, but he ignored her. Both were killed shortly after arriving home

Cassandra’s final prophecy fulfilled, like all the others.
