For the first time, researchers have identified exactly what Roman builders were adding to their concrete to make it last for centuries....

At an unfinished building site in Pompeii, abandoned during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, archaeologists uncovered something rare: Roman concrete materials that were prepared but never mixed. That frozen moment revealed how Roman builders actually made their concrete.

Instead of mixing lime and water the way we do today, they combined quicklime with volcanic ash first, then added water. The reaction produced intense heat and left behind tiny fragments of reactive lime trapped inside the hardened concrete. When cracks later formed and water seeped in, those fragments reacted again and sealed the damage from within.

In other words, some Roman concrete was intentionally engineered to heal its own cracks — and it’s still doing it nearly 2,000 years later.

Yesterday, a STAT News item about an unnamed "79-year-old" patient receiving a new drug went viral, being as it was published just after Trump's 80th birthday party.

Lieu, who is not shy about challenging Trump in plain terms — and who ought to be an example for his colleagues on that front — questioned why the President decided to hold bipartisan housing legislation hostage in an ongoing attempt to rig the midterms.

"When Donald Trump decides he's not coming to sign the bill, well, why is that? Did he wake up on the wrong side of the bed? Is he unable to stay awake today? What's causing him to chicken out again? Is it TACO Wednesday, or is it side effects from a drug?" Lieu asked, but he was far from done with the topic.

After referencing Trump's increasingly erratic and reckless behavior, he continued.

"He has trouble staying awake at multiple White House events and cabinet meetings, he has clearly some weakness in one of his arms, he's got swelling in his hands, and the White House needs to come clean.

"[There was a] report saying that one person in America got this special new drug. It was a 79-year-old person who's very high profile, and this drug can only be given to someone under the compassionate use provision, meaning you do that if someone basically has a terminal illness," Lieu continued.

More Democrats need to be as bold and truthful as Rep. Lieu.

The flying model was made of carbon fiber and lightweight foam — the entire structure weighs only 13 kg.

The dragon has 23 movable parts, allowing it to bend and flap its wings in flight. Electric motors and built-in mechanisms move its head, wings, and tail, while hidden propellers keep it in the air.

The project took about three months and a team of 14 people to complete.

The DHS statement quoted in the piece is the tell. Asked to respond to a tribe suing to stop a wall on its own sovereign land, a spokesperson noted Secretary Mullin is a citizen of the Cherokee Nation. That is the entire substantive defense offered.
