@drdaven1 Yes! Many hypotheses for the rise of dementia (aging pop, lifestyle, nutrition, air pollution). Longitudinal data and stored samples will let us look at changes over 30y in markers of metabolic & cognitive health to better understand the root causes of dementia.

@drdaven1 This type of longitudinal study is rare & only study design to determine the impact of preventative interventions & root causes of chronic diseases. If decision is not reversed, it will undermine our best opportunity to uncover the root cause of Alzheimer’s and Dementia!
@drdaven1 DPPOS is the long-term follow up of the original cohort, and is currently studying Alzheimer’s Disease and dementia, in addition to continuing to study the long-term effects of diabetes prevention on other health conditions such as cancer, CVD, kidney disease, etc.
@iamlizolson@VPrasadMDMPH Unless the funding decision is immediately reversed, the infrastructure for this important project will collapse undermining our nation’s best opportunity to uncover the root cause of Alzheimer’s and Dementia, waste taxpayer’s $$, and work against the Admin’s stated goal of MAHA.
@iamlizolson@VPrasadMDMPH DPPOS is a continuation of the DPP study and has followed 1700 of the original participants for almost 30 years. This type of longitudinal study is rare and is the only study design that can determine the impact of preventative interventions and root causes of chronic diseases.
