Witnessed the most amazing thing on the train to Edinburgh yesterday. A guy boarded in Wigan & sat opposite me. He went to sleep for an hour.
When he woke up he bought a sandwich, ate it & went back to sleep. (This isn’t a maths test, you don’t need to know the distance/speed).
The entire Marvel Cinematic Universe was built on Favreau convincing a bunch of executives that a middle-aged actor not long out of rehab and prison, who had described himself as "box office poison" even during his earlier 1990s heyday, would be the perfect Iron Man.
One might question that what does a company/organization get by profiling "me", an individual? It's not about an individual, it's about profiling a bunch of people, grouping them together and analysing what would and wouldn't work for that group of people.
This basically sums up why one must be careful when it comes to sharing data. What might seem harmless to share can actually be something that is used for profiling the users.
If you want to understand data privacy in short -
1. If you give, they store.
2. if they store, they share.
3. If they share, they aggregate.
4. If they aggregate, they profile.
5. If they profile, they surveil.
6. If they surveil, they have power.
