The BJP in Bihar must paint its face black.

On one hand, a teenage boy and girl were allegedly harassed and molested by thugs in Jamui. And now, young girls are crying in Nawada, Bihar because their school principal peeks into the washroom and touches them inappropriately.

This is an utterly unacceptable standard of safety and dignity for women and girls - in Bihar or anywhere in India.

The Bihar government must raise the standards of policing, accountability and basic social order. If it cannot ensure that girls walk on the streets and use a school washroom without fear, then it should walk out in shame.

Yesterday it was fans. Today it is classrooms.

A 17 year old girl was gang raped in a park near Kalkaji Mandir. And the response from one of the best women's colleges in the country, 2 km away, is to move classes online.

So the girls stay home. The park stays exactly as it was. The lane behind the back gate stays exactly as it was. The men stay exactly where they were.

Problem solved?

Notice the pattern. Student dies, remove the fan. Girl is assaulted, remove the girl. Every time, the one already suffering gets moved. Never the system.

At this rate the safest campus in India will be the one with no students in it.

Fix the lighting. Fix the patrolling. Fix the park. Fix the men.

Then send the girls back to class.
