i STILL don’t understand how so many of you were hoodwinked into believing the government should not use the money you pay in taxes to create a social safety net that benefits you, fund public healthcare, lower housing costs, and make daily life more affordable.
b/c blaming parents is the low-hanging fruit.
God forbid we address the real impacts of the 2008 collapse, NCLB, growing state divestment public education, mass losses of qualified teachers, politically-driven shifts, COVID, rejected national standards, etc.
Oh no, PARENTS!!!!
Nobody talks about how "parking" used to cost quarters. Now it's $8/hour, requires an app, won't take cash, and charges you a $2 "convenience fee" to pay digitally. You're paying a tech tax to leave your car in a painted rectangle. Public space has been monetized into oblivion.
Nobody talks about how "utilities" are no longer regulated. Your electric bill doubled, your water bill tripled, and there's nothing you can do because it's a private monopoly. They privatized the public good, eliminated competition, and now charge whatever they want.
Your relationship with yourself cannot be built entirely around improvement. At some point, you have to become someone you are allowed to enjoy being. You get to be proud of who you are. Present tense.
