Sigh.
Been talking about this dah lama.
OKU are second class citizens by force of policy & law. Our CRPD reservations hampers the domestication of Disability Rights in MY.
Registering for the OKU card formalises the 2nd class citizen status of OKU.
@hannahyeoh@NancyShukri
Are we asking why OKU registration are low? Have we looked at the discrimination and stigma that disabled persons face in all areas of life, discrimination that is formalised once one registers for the OKU card?
@hannahyeoh@NancyShukri@sivarraajh
If you are disabled person, part of a Disabled Persons' Organisation (DPO), or a disability advocate, we should talk about building a wider front of solidarity.
Email kamisiuman at gmail dot com and let us know your availability.
RTs appreciated.

Hi everyone. Our collective members will be conducting a disability advocacy workshop in Kuching on 4 Aug as part of the 6th Sarawak Mental Health Conference.
We have some downtime during the conference (5 & 6 August) & we'd like to connect with advocates based in Sarawak.

Are you a #PostDoc researcher looking to take the next step in your career?
Do you have a bold idea to examine the biological, psychological, economic, cultural, or environmental factors that impact #MentalHealth?
You could qualify for funding from MQ 👇

Content Note: Self-harm
We have seen the thread on students being further traumatised for self-harming, and we are NOT linking to it.
We have brought this up numerous times, but no one...

We want to hear from clients & patients of public healthcare, especially those with chronic illnesses.
In one tweet, what would help you most as a patient, client or service user? What resources or services do you need from KKM?
Share 👇, please keep your comments respectful.
Nak tambah sikit. This also affects OKU, in different ways.
Travel will be difficult for wheelchairs users, and OKU mental face barriers to passport renewals.
I know of at least 1 person (a fellow advocate) who was arbitrarily denied passport renewal.
Wow. KPWKM platforming NASOM, who are ABA proponents. ABA therapy has been called out by autistic self-advocates as abuse.

Until people start recognising that it’s a systemic barrier and resistance towards including #ActuallyAutistic in their programmes on autism, Malaysia ain’t gonna move forward anytime soon. A rant 🧵
I was one of those interviewed by Malaysiakini ✌️😬
"I believe that we should appoint a mental disability advocate as a senator to better represent the whole spectrum of disability, both visible and invisible."

Some thoughts.
PN politicians think so poorly of the disabled community, and LGBT, they deliberately put both communities, entire groups of vulnerable people, in harm's way. In Parliament.

Besides the repeal of Sec. 309, which still needs to go through Dewan Negara, this is the only bright spot.
The previous Sec. 305 & 306 also had "abetment", but bullying that led to suicides was never prosecuted under either.
This will change that.

Bittersweet.
Amendments to the Mental Health Act and Penal Code have been passed by Dewan Rakyat, but as they were initially presented.
Yes, it's a win, but also not.
We will be releasing a statement soon.
