BREAKING: Former Foreign Minister Mohamed Abdirizak says calls to return Somalia to a transitional system lack careful consideration. He says the Nabad and Nolol party, led by @M_Farmaajo, rejects such a proposal suggested by the opposition.
Beyond the negotiations and political maneuvering lies a more fundamental question: What kind of political settlement will enable Somalia to remain united, democratic, and stable over the next twenty years? My latest essay explores that question.

Dictatorship in the making or what?.
Demanding people to obey and refusing them to allow their freedom to act as they wish is a total violation of the Somali constitution.
Constructive criticism is the symbol of freedom of expression enshrined in every constitution.
Benito Mussolini once said: “all within the state, nothing outside the state, nothing against the state.”
How do the Somali people see the behavior of the Somali Government and its treatment in silencing the legitimate news its political opponents and other foreign media critics.
Are we in a Mussolini era?
QARAN-JAB IYO IHAANO KA WAYN MA JIRTO IN KU-XIGEEN AGAASIME SIRDOON DOWLAD AJNABI AH IN UU NA DHEX-DHEXAADIYO.
Waxaa musiibo qaran ah in maanta la qabto shir dhex-dhexaadin iyo dib-u-hishiisiin u dhexeeya mucaaradka iyo dowladda muddo xileedkeeda uu dhammaaday, garwadeena ay ka yihiin ajnabi xilal hooseeya ka haaya dalalkooda.
Shirka ayaa sida la soo warinaayo ku saabsan nidaam doorasho “electoral model” hishiis lagu wada yahay, waa mid laga maarmi karay in dowlado ajnabi ah lala hoos-galo, waayo waa qaran-jab iyo bahdilaad food-saartay dowladnimada Soomaaliyeed.
Waxaa dalka iyo qurbaha jooga aqoon-yahanno Soomaaliyeed khibrad iyo waayo-aragnimo xad-dhaaf ah u leh habraacyada iyo nidaamyada doorasho “electoral systems” - waxaa runtii mucaaradka iyo dowladda ay ka fadileen in wakiilo ajnabi ah ay la hoos galaan in ay u soo minguuriyaan habraacyo doorasho ay Soomaalida ku filan tahay, waa haddii ay jirto niyaad wanaag, kalsooni iyo dowlad dhis la wada aaminsan yahay.
Waaxaa kaloo ihaano xadkeeda dhaaftay iyo garasho la’aan ah in ku-xigeenka sirdoonka dalka Turkiye iyo wakiilo u badan ajnabi siihaye-yaal “charge d’affaires a. i” u badan ee dalkeena muqiimka (residence) ku ah in ay siyaasiinta Soomaaliyeed dhex-dhexaadiyaan, farta ugu fiiqaan masiirka dalka , iyagoo ka duulaya danahooda gaar ahaaneed, wixii ay rabaana u yeeriyaan.
Waxaa la yaab ah in dowladda Turkiye iyo wakiilada beesha caalamka C6+ ay qorsheeyeen in maalinta kowaad loo furo xubnaha ka socda dowladda iyo mucaaradka tababar wacyigelin ku saabsan kalsooni iyo niyad dhisid “confidence-building measures” iyo tababaro yar-yar “mini workshop” u qaab eg “induction training course” - which primarily refers to the formal act or process of introducing participants in order to reach a general conclusion about a highly debated and contraversial issue eg. “electoral model” aan la hubin natiijadeeda iyo fulinteeda intaba.
Ugu dambayn, waxaan dowladda iyo siyaasiinta mucaaradka ah “opposition actors” ku waani lahaa in dalka iyo dadka Soomaaliyeed loo jiir-naxo, dowladnimadana la badbaadiyo,
ajnabiga maalin walba la hoos cararaayo markii xurguf siyaasadeed timaado “minor issues” la joojiyo, sharafta, qiyamka iyo milgaha dowladnimada iyo maqaamka shacabka Soomaaliyeed la dhowro, waa iga talo.

Somalia's Defence Minister, Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, recently claimed that there are only two political parties in Somalia: the JPS led by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Al-Shabaab. He may have intended to dismiss the opposition as irrelevant, but his statement raises a serious question. Why does the current administration, whose mandate expires on May 15, 2026, frame a terrorist organization as its principal political rival instead of the democratic opposition, including former presidents, prime ministers, ans ministers.
It is really difficult to dismiss the Minister's statement as a simple slip of the tongue when you know that the co-founder of Al-Shabaab, Mukhtar Robow, is the Minister of Religious Affairs despite never standing trial for his past role in the terrorist group. Mr. Fiqi's predecessor at the ministry and current Minister of Ports is also a former Al-Shabaab member. This caused me to wonder: is this part of the reason the US decided to end its $502 million funding for the UN to support the AUSSOM logistics?
If so, does Washington anticipate that Al-Shabaab could eventually become the country's dominant political force? Nevertheless, the prevailing culture within the FGS leaders is driven by power, status, and political opportunism rather than principles. For instance, the current Minister of Internal Security once opposed HSM as a "corrupt and dangerous man" and only switched sides after his fallout with Jubbaland president, Ahmed Madobe.
Somalia is a beautiful nation with immense opportunities and potential to become the Singapore of East Africa, but it continues to suffer from the deliberate instability, division, and misgovernance of corrupt, incompetent, yet violent men who hold 20 million citizens hostage for 3.5 decades. The ultimate choice belongs to the citizens to uprise and reject the cycle of lawlessness.
The lame-duck president, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, is reportedly planning to proceed with a parliamentary election that many argue is unconstitutional. He is seeking to install a Speaker in a Parliament whose constitutional term expired on April 14, 2026.
The broader concern, according to many observers, is what they see as a continuing pattern of disregarding the Constitution and the laws governing the country. They argue that Somalia’s political crisis persists because President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is determined to manipulate the country’s constitutional and legal frameworks to advance his political agenda.
Looking back at the president’s conduct over the past four years, it is likely that he will seek the election of a compliant Speaker who will do whatever he is told to do.
The parliamentarians participating in this vote at least have a choice among the candidates before them. Rather than supporting the president’s preferred candidate, they should choose to support Hon. Sadat Alio, who has a cleaner political record that surpasses the President’s preferred candidate.
Vote for Hon. Sadat Alio because of his demonstrated commitment to constitutional governance, and his advocacy for inclusive political processes that prioritize national stability over partisan interests.
Disclaimer: Endorsing a candidate for Speaker does not constitute recognition of the legality or constitutional legitimacy of the current Parliament or the government overseeing this process. It reflects only a preference among the available candidates.
SHORT MEMORABLE MOTTO
This is a short memorable motto in which I had written it in the eve of the Somali Presidential Election in Djibouti
(December 17, 2008).
“Whether I am feeling hopeful or discouraged about peace and democracy in Somalia these days, the transition from making the peace to building the peace lack self-assurance per se, and not applicable, as some actors/ entertain themselves”.
“It is with my hope and conviction that it succeeds, but if history is a guide, and knowing exactly, compromising positions of certain political actors/stakeholders, I am hesitant that the state we are going to produce will in the final analysis, turning out be a criminal state legitimized by fraudulent elections and it is the same formula in which I had predicted it”.
Political leaders must and shall develop immediate inner conscience and humane attitude to save the people and country, otherwise, we shall all regret at different times and ages.

THE PETER PRINCIPLE
Why things always go wrong ?
There are two kinds of failures:
"Those who thought and never did and those who did and never thought".
Lawrene J. Peter.
In the context of Somalia the two extremes can be taken as an example: those who thought and never did ( elites, civil society organizations, learning society) and those who did and never thought (opposition/warlords, Federal and state leaders.
This is unfortunate reality for a country which is at the brink of total annihilation from the face of the earth and brutally ravaged by a fratricidal war for over three decades.

1) IGAD’s mandate covers development, food security, and intergovernmental cooperation. ✅
2) IGAD’s mandate does NOT include brokering internal Somali political disputes through unofficial Eid visits. ❌
If IGAD wished to formally facilitate dialogue between Mogadishu and Jubaland, that would require institutional mandate NOT a personal holiday visit followed by a public endorsement post. 🫢😬😳
What you have done is use IGAD’s platform and Somalia’s goodwill to launder political legitimacy for a man who ordered his forces to fire on the Somali National Army. That is not diplomacy. That is not wisdom. And it is most certainly not patriotism.
I want to leave you with this:
You are NOT a neutral actor. You are the Deputy Executive Secretary of IGAD, a position you hold because the Federal Government of Somalia 🇸🇴 lobbied for your appointment. 🫵🏽That same government is now the one you are publicly undermining by legitimizing a figure it does not recognize, in a dispute that touches directly on Somalia’s constitutional order, its federal security architecture, and an active conflict zone.
Resign ASAP!
I, President of Southwest State H.E. Abdiaziz Laftagareen, resign as Deputy Chairman of the JSP effective today, March 18, 2026. I cannot support unconstitutional actions that weaken our unity. My commitment remains to Somalia’s unity, democracy, and the rule of law.
DFS waxa ay wali rajo ka qabtaa in maamulada ay ku maaweeliso in ay “iska-joogaan” doorasho la’aan.
Qoraalka Wasaaradda Arrimaha Gudaha wuxuu u qaab eg yahay “run ha sheegin, beenna ha sheegin, waxaad sheegtana ha waayin”.
Listen to me, my fellow Somalis, Sudanese, Eritrean and Egyptian brothers and sisters. 🇸🇴🇪🇷🇪🇬🇸🇩
We must unite, just like the Scandinavian 🇸🇪🇳🇴🇫🇮🇩🇰countries, and combine our strength. We should start by cooperating in key areas: media, intelligence, defense, currency, airlines, investment, and foreign policy.
Ethiopia remains the main source of instability in our region, and we must finally recognize this and take action. This anti-African country has long enjoyed support from foreign powers, which it uses to betray and undermine its neighbors.
In Sudan, it collaborates with the Emirates to contribute to the suffering and genocide of the Sudanese people.
In the Somali Republic, it supports Oromo led ISIS and Al Shabab that terrorize Somalis while hiding under Atmis and Islam.
In Eritrea, it is preparing potential attacks to gain access to the sea. In Egypt they started weaponizing the Nile river just to starve millions of Egyptians.
I personally hold no hatred toward the Ethiopian people. I have always spoken out about the severe violence and suffering inflicted on the Amhara and Tigray communities in northern Ethiopia.
However, I have come to realize that Ethiopia is the core problem in our region — no matter who holds power. This failing state is exploited by Asian, European, and American interests, often influenced by a Zionist-led hateful policies, to weaken and destroy neighboring countries.
We must bravely expose the truth, speak out, and stand together against tyranny, moral decay, and foreign-controlled puppets like Abiy Ahmed, who has been responsible for immense suffering and hundreds of thousands of deaths in northern Ethiopia during recent conflicts.
None of us benefits positively from Ethiopia’s current role in the region. Therefore, we should demand the relocation of the African Union headquarters. Africa must choose its own leaders and capital city — and only a country that truly respects international law, human rights, and democracy deserves to host or lead the continent.
Ethiopia, which bears responsibility for the severe starvation affecting many Amhara and Tigrayan Christians, the deaths of hundreds of thousands of its own citizens during recent conflicts, and its involvement in regional instability—including in Sudan and the Somali Republic—must finally face reality.
We have every right to take action to stop this country from continuing to kill and terrorize our nations. Ethiopia must never be allowed sea access, nor should it continue hosting the African Union headquarters or pursuing its interests in ways that undermine regional peace.
