What you need to know about Elbur/El-Bur/Ceelbuur:

It’s a historic town in Somalia’s Galmudug state, famous for trade, extraction of quarry and producing clay pots.

In late March 2014, Ethiopian troops supporting Somali forces seized it from al-Shabaab.

The militants didn’t go far, and the civilians emptied the town. Apart from Ethiopian troops, there were reportedly only 27 Somalis in the town at the time (9 civilians 18 soldiers).

Al-Shabaab besieged it and eventually led to the departure of ENDF in early April 2017.
