Today, I did some aerial photogrammetry from a plane!
Due to the cabin being tight and my cam’s viewfinder disp. not rotating, i had to get clever. Using the HDMI input on my @FatsharkRC FPV goggles, I had a clean feed of my camera, which worked super well!
@DuckbillStudio I don’t understand why people are shooting videos with drones instead of photos (apart from 360 drones). Photos are higher res, higher quality, higher FOV, and have GPS data ingrained in EXIF already
@YeheLiu They work just fine. The only drawback vs printing on paper is that 3d printers can have much looser tolerances than 2D printers. But if you don’t need a crazy level of scale accuracy,‘it’s fine
Ok, this is awesome
The kind folks at @holoxica reached out to me with their 32” 8K Gen2 @LKGGlass to showcase my work and sent me back this video. ooooo boy 😍😍
I can't imagine how amazing this looks in person... so sharp!! GN!
My honest take: I can’t wait to use Steam Frame. But it needed to launch 3 years ago to move the needle on VR beyond hardcore users. The industry is in the midst of a transition to a new class of headset, and Steam Frame already looks dated at launch.
I respect the people at Valve for building the thing they personally want to use. I think that ethos will make Frame beloved by a particular group of people, but that group probably isn’t going to grow substantially beyond where it’s at now.
Some observations regarding the Gaussian splats in apple maps visionOS 27
- the quality is very consistent. No ghosting, no holes, no semi opaque surfaces.
- the off axis views are quite high fidelity. Doesn’t suffer from novel view angles
- i don’t see any reflectivity or spherical harmonics. Probably to save bandwidth cost or training speed
Impressive stuff!
A year ago, my wife and I were in these hills in South Tyrol
Now I get to revisit it as a Gaussian splat! Just posted it on SuperSplat - https://t.co/WYSGSzpzuD
