One of the ways ActionAid Nigeria supports girls' right to education is through our child sponsorship initiative. Sponsoring a girl helps to pay for new school buildings, school fees and school supplies such as books and equipment. Our approach is unique.

Sum, as she is fondly called, began the #GCG in 2019 with the goal of reducing teenage/child pregnancy and sensitising Gobiyya girls on the importance of education. With the increase in the number of children joining the group, she has divided them into 2 groups.
It helps their family and wider community to thrive as well. Girls who stay in school are more likely to support themselves, look after their health, avoid early marriage, pregnancy and contribute to the society.

Girls face distinct disadvantages because they are female. Nigeria has 13.2 million out-of-school children and the girl-child accounts for 60 percent of this figure. @ActionAid believes that investing in girl's education equips them with skills and knowledge to grow and prosper.
