A2: I often just let them talk. Sometimes share things from my life that connect but lots of times kids just want to feel like someone is actively listening. Plus I always have snacks in my room! #SaskEdChat
A1: it actually happened today when a student I have been working with all year on their reading, successfully tested at grade level! I’m so proud of them! #SaskEdChat
Skeptical of whether listening to a story counts as “real reading”? Audiobooks can help struggling readers deepen their comprehension of story structure, figurative language, and overarching themes, a librarian explains. 👇

When students dysregulate and behave in unexpected ways, they are thinking with the emotional part of their brain at that moment. This is not a teachable moment. It is a time to connect, not correct. #LeadInclusion#EdChat#UDL#Inclusion#SEL
I’m so exhausted from this week… which is disappointing cause I am doing a ton of research on trauma-informed teaching right now and absolutely love it. I’ll read through the discussion later #SaskEdChat
@tgrantt I’d rather cell phones stay out of the classroom. My only “exception” is music and the calculator… but my school is a solid no phone in class space and I think it benefits the students #SaskEdChat
@tgrantt@MrALongstaff My school is just about 1-to-1, and it has some great advantages… but there is definitely some strategy to balancing tech time and non-tech time. #SaskEdChat
A2: as someone who spends way too much time on social media… it can be a tool if taught how to use it correctly… but comes with so much responsibility #SaskEdChat
@jannymarie It changes so fast! Unless it is something I’m super comfortable using/troubleshooting I always worry about introducing something new #SaskEdChat
@MissNameth Depending on the age of the students I know some of my student really like Alice Oseman’s book. She has some graphic novels and chapter books and write about a lot of different identities, but they are definitely for teen and older.
@RogersHistory Oh 100% this is accurate. But also why is that a bad thing? Are they misbehaving? Refusing to come back? Kids taking breaks to regulate is a healthy strategy. Maybe create a space where students can ask for a break instead of pretending to need to go to the bathroom.
