Our father lived in Pakistan - away from us - for most of our lives. Not because he had to, but because he chose to stand up against a corrupt regime. 🚨🇵🇰 EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: IMRAN KHAN’S SONS BREAK THEIR SILENCE

Every once in a while, I conduct an interview that could shape the politics of a country.

This may be one of them.

Imran Khan, who I spoke with just weeks before his arrest, was one of the most popular leaders of our time.
Often called the “Trump of Pakistan,” he had an approval rating above 60%.

But when he turned against the country’s powerful military establishment, the cost was immediate.

He was shot.
Then jailed.
Then banned — not just from office, but from television, radio, and social media.

And yet, even from behind bars, even with his name erased, his party still won a majority in Pakistan’s latest elections.

It didn’t matter.

Today, he sits in a 7x8 cell designed for death row inmates.
No light. No lawyer. No access to doctors. No due process.

His sons, Sulaiman and Kasim Khan, have spent their lives out of the spotlight, far from the chaos of Pakistani politics.

But for nearly 2 years, they’ve watched their father — wounded, silenced, and locked in solitary confinement — be forgotten by the world.

They haven’t seen him since he was shot.
Phone calls, when they come, arrive at random — sometimes at 4 a.m. — and last only 20 minutes before the line goes dead.

They stayed completely silent through all of it.
Not because they didn’t care — but because they were afraid speaking out would make things worse.

But now?

Now it’s been too long.
Now the silence feels like betrayal.
Now, they’re speaking — because this might be the only thing left they can do.

And they did not hold back.

To Pakistanis: do not lose hope.

To the international community: do not turn a blind eye.

Not without his people. Not if it means betraying them.

Legal routes are gone. Silence no longer helps. This is our last card.

15:19 — “They banned his name.”
On TV, radio, and online — we became the code for our own father.

17:01 — “We never spoke to Grenell.”
But we’re grateful. And we’ll speak to anyone who’ll listen.

18:27 — “It’s 100% political.”
False charges. Fake trials. A democracy on mute.

20:51 — “Yes, people have been taken.”
Supporters, journalists — vanished. Tortured. Broken.

22:06 — “He told us to stay private.”
But now? We have no choice.

24:03 — “We thought it’d be a few weeks.”
It’s been nearly two years.

26:26 — “He reads. He teaches. Then he listens.”
Each call is a lifeline.

28:05 — “They blurred him out.”
Even the 1992 World Cup photos — he was erased.

31:00 — “I’ve grown more in 2 years than 20.”
That’s what he tells us.

32:20 — “It’s getting desperate.”
New threats. Talk of a death sentence. No end in sight.

32:57 — “We asked him for permission.”
He said: Do it.

35:00 — “The last time we saw him, he’d been shot.”
Three bullets. Still standing. Still smiling.

36:45 — “We’re told not to come back.”
We might be used to break him further.

38:16 — “Respect the vote.”
PTI won — even without its symbol, even in silence.

39:38 — “Selling exotic fruit?”
That’s what they jailed him for.

40:53 — “Some family members were scared.”
But we have to try something.

42:07 — “He’s not done.”
Still learning. Still fighting. Still planning.

43:12 — “He’s 70. He was shot. And they deny him a doctor.”
This is not justice. This is torture.

رجیم چینج آپریشن کی رات کچھ معتبر چہروں پر خوف کے گھمبیر سائے تھے۔ کچھ دیر قبل کی میٹنگ میں ہوئے فیصلے پر آنے والی کال کا حکم حاوی ہوچکا تھا۔ وزیر اعظم کو سرینڈر پر آمادہ کیا جارہا تھا۔ آئین، قانون کی پاسداری کے گذشتہ دعوی اتنے ہی حقیقت تھے جتنا کے ۷۷ سال سے اعلی جاہ کا غیر سیاسی ہونے کا بیان۔ اگلی شام عوام سڑکوں پر آگئی، عقابی روح پھر بیدار ہوگئی۔ ۲۵ مئی تک چہروں کے رنگ کھلتے بکھرتے ہی رہے۔ عمران خان کا حکم آتا شہر کے شہر سڑکوں پر ہوتے۔ پھر یوں ہوا کے ۲۵ مئی کا مارچ ۲۶ مئی کی صبح ختم ہوگیا، سیاہ سائے پھر منڈلانے لگے۔ آگے سر پر ضمنی انتخابات بھی تھے۔ آقاؤں نے پورا زور لگایا، ان کی کوششوں پر یقین محکم رکھنے والوں کے تجزیے بھی ان کی فتح کا اعلان کر رہے تھے۔ عوامی طاقت اور بہتر حکمتِ عملی سے ہم نے اپنا مینڈیٹ محفوظ کرلیا تو بجھے چہروں پر پھر چراغ روشن ہوگئے مگر اگست میں ڈاکٹر شہباز گل کی گرفتاری کے حالات اور ان پر ہونے والے بہیمانہ تشدد کی خبروں نے پھر یہ شمعیں معدوم کردیں۔ پارٹی کے کچھ خیرخواہوں نے ہمیں بھی گِل سے دور رہنے کی تنبیہہ کی تو دوسری جانب اپنے اور غیروں نے مل کر اُس کے ڈبل ایجنٹ ہونے کا بیانیہ بنانا شروع کردیا۔ باوجود ان سب بیانیوں کے ناصرف خان صاحب شہباز گِل کی تیمارداری کے لیے ہسپتال آئے بلکہ ان کے لیے ریلی بھی منعقد کی۔ خیر کبھی کے دن بڑے تو کبھی کی راتیں، یہ اتار چڑھاؤ چلتا رہا۔ کبھی ہمارا پلڑا بھاری تو کبھی مدمقابل کا داؤ چل جاتا، ایسے ہی بنی گالہ کیمپ سے نکلتے ہوئے کچھ ”سرگرم“ رہنماؤں نے گھیر لیا، پوچھا کیا لگ رہا ہے؟ موسم کچھ بدلا بدلا سا نہیں ہے؟ میں نے کہا اپنی میٹنگز کا احوال بتانا چاہ رہے ہیں یا مستقبل کا حال جاننا مقصود ہے؟ کہا تمہارا اندازہ کیا ہے؟ میں نے کہا ٹرک کی بتی کے پیچھے مت لگو۔ نا ان کی گیدڑ بھبکیوں سے ناامید ہو، نا ان کی چکنی چپڑی باتوں سے کوئی امید باندھو۔ ان کی کیلکولیشن کے مطابق مستقبل کے منظرنامے میں عمران خان نہیں ہے۔ چہرے پھر لٹک گئے۔ کہا مگر عمران خان ان کی کیلکولیشنز کا محتاج نہیں ہے۔
پوچھنا تو بہت کچھ چاہتے تھے کہ ان کی خدائی پر ایمان کچھ اپنوں کو بھی کم نہ تھا مگر پوچھا فقط اتنا کہ کیسے؟
(اور اس کیسے کا جواب وہ جواب ہے جو میں آج بھی خود کو دیتا ہوں جب مجھے اپنا آپ بے بس محسوس ہونے لگتا ہے۔)
”جس شخص نے دنیاوی طاقتوں کو للکار کر اللہ کے پیغمبر (ص) سے محبت کا اقرار کیا۔ جس نے نبیوں کی سرزمین بیت المقدس کا مقدمہ لڑا۔ جو کشمیر سے لے کر افغانستان تک ہر مظلوم مسلمان کی آواز بنا۔ جس نے اسلام کو دہشت گردی سے جوڑنے کے بیانیے کو نیست و نابود کیا۔ جو اپنی قوم کی اس وقت ڈھال بنا جب بیرونی ہر طاقت ان کے خون کی پیاسی اور اندرونی ہر طاقت ان کی قیمت لگانے کو تیار تھی۔ جس نے اللہ کے بندوں کے زخموں پر مرہم رکھا۔ ان کی فلاح کو مقدم رکھا۔ ان کے وقار کی حفاظت کی۔اللہ ہی اس کی مدد کرے گا۔ اللہ اس کی مدد اس لیے کرے گا کہ اس نے ہر قدم پر صرف اللہ سے مدد مانگی ہے۔ اللہ اس کی مدد اس لیے کرے گا کہ اس نے یہ لڑائی صرف اور صرف اس کی خدائی کے بھروسے مول لی ہے اور اللہ اپنی کبریائی میں کوئی شراکت نہیں قبول کرتا۔ ہاں یہ لڑائی آسان نہیں ہونی، گِل آخری نہیں جس نے یہ سب سہا اوروں کو بھی سہنا ہوگا۔ جسم پہ جبر بھی اور روح پر زخم بھی!
میں آخری نہیں جس کے سر کی قیمت لگی اوروں کی بھی لگے گی۔ سب کا سب داؤ پہ لگے گا۔مگر سب سے کھٹن یہ سفر عمران خان کے لیے ہوگا کیونکہ ہم، ہم سفر سہی مگر اصل میں تو صراط مستقیم کا متلاشی وہ ہے اور صراط مستقیم پہ چلنا سہل کب رہا ہے؟
اب اس کو تو اپنی خواہش کی قیمت معلوم ہے، جس جس کو ساتھ چلنے کی خواہش ہے جگرا بڑا رکھے“۔
آپ سمجھ رہے ہوں گے یہ کہہ کر میں خود کو اور آپ کو ذمہ داری سے مبرا کررہا ہوں۔ میں ایسا نہیں کررہا۔ میں اپنے جواب میں سوال چھوڑ رہا ہوں اور جان کر چھوڑ رہا ہوں کیونکہ کچھ دن سے اندازہ ہورہا ہے کہ کم لکھے کو زیادہ پڑھنے کا ہنر سیکھنا آپ کے لیے بھی اب ضروری ہے۔
