OTD in 1952 noted SBC musician and composer BB McKinney died from injuries sustained in a car wreck. He wrote "Wherever He Leads, I'll Go." The name of the tune is Falls Creek in honor of where he composed the song and the thousands who would sing it every summer at camp.
On way home today took detour north of Muskogee to see marker showing where first ever Bapt. church was founded in what would become Oklahoma. In 1832, Isaac McCoy started a Bapt. church here in what was known as Ebenezer Station & baptized converts in nearby Verdigris River.

OTD in 2017 Shane Hall preached on Philippians 4 at the SBC Pastors Conference. Even in the midst of great hardships “all we need is Jesus.” Shane passed away from cancer in February 2018.
OTD in 1835 JS Murrow was born. He was a pioneering missionary among Native Americans in Indian Territory. He helped establish over 60 churches and is said to have baptized over 4,000 people. After serving many years he opened JS Murrow Orphan home in 1902 and died at age of 94

OTD in 1848 Cortez Stubblefield was born. The OK pastor became the Corresponding Secretary of BGCIT, and President of BGCO 1912-15. He was a leader in unifying the two conventions in IT, and then them merging to form BGCO, now @OKBaptists
OTD in 1832 37 new converts were baptized @ Muscogee Baptist Church in OK. There were 10 Creek Indians and 27 African slaves. This was the first baptist church in Oklahoma/Indian Territory
OTD in 1860, the Cherokee Indian Baptist Association was formed. Pictured is Moses Ridge, a Cherokee preacher who was 95 years old in 1918. Ridge was a minister in the association as early as 1877 and possibly before.
OTD in 1832 Muscogee Baptist Church organized with six charter members. This was the first baptist church formed in Indian Territory and in @OKBaptists history.
OTD in 1909 Shawnee was announced as the future spot for @obunews by committee over Lawton, Chickasha, Hobart, El Reno, Blackwell, OKC, Guthrie, and Sulphur, among others.
This is historic on many levels. It’s the 75th anniversary of @IFC_OK and the first time the current SBC president has visited. Along with @keahbone they discussed Resolution 4 from #sbc22, the first time that messengers spoke to injustices against Native Americans.
