It’s honestly gut wrenching to read whats happening in Kodagu right now. 14 tigers dead in just six months and 11 of them were cubs. Let that sink in for a second. We aren’t just losing animals; we are watching a local population collapse in real time.
What makes it worse is that this isn't just bad luck. It is a massive failure of the administration. Local workers literally warned officials about tiger movements days ago, but as usual, nobody moved a finger until there was a body to collect. This wait and see approach to conservation is exactly why our forests are bleeding.
These wire snares aren’t accidents or tools of poverty; they’re deliberate, lethal traps left in known tiger paths. When the authorities tolerate these in fringe zones, they are basically signing a death warrant for the next generation.
Biologically, we are looking at a disaster. You lose the mothers and the cubs, and you break the entire ecosystem. Tigers keep the balance without them, the whole chain falls apart, leading to more human animal conflict and a degraded forest. Tigers are the guardians of our water security and forest health. As apex predators, they maintain the trophic balance. Losing a mother and her cubs triggers a "trophic cascade":
Prey populations (boars/deer) explode, leading to more crop raids.
Forest regeneration slows as overgrazing increases.
The Karnataka Forest Department needs to stop giving us the same "we will investigate" script every time a tiger dies. We need proactive patrolling and actual consequences for this negligence. Silence isn't conservation; it's complicity.

A humble and earnest request to the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, the Government of India, and all rule making authorities:

Please choose compassion over cruelty. Animals are already surviving extreme hardship hatred, neglect, abuse, and complete human indifference.

They did not choose this life on the streets.
There is an urgent and undeniable need for strict, effective Animal Birth Control rules. Sterilization drives must be implemented on a war footing, with accountability and sensitivity.

This is the only humane, scientific, and sustainable solution to reduce suffering and animal–human conflict. India has always been known as a compassionate nation a land that teaches kindness, coexistence, and empathy for all living beings.

Let us uphold those values, not dilute them.

Compassion is not weakness.
Compassion is responsibility.
Compassion is humanity. Let us protect the voiceless.
