Just Around the Corner

Little vent comic I made for myself about how mourning the idea of someone can be hard to navigate, especially when others don't understand. In the end it'll all be ok though ♥
(1/2)
The video game industry has been trying to goad you into this dystopian version of itself, and the worst is yet to come🚀
They’ve manipulated data and engineered narratives to make it feel like physical games are a niche market, meanwhile the real data says otherwise:
✅Sony shipped ~70 million physical PlayStation discs worldwide in FY2025
✅In the UK, physical market exceeded £300 million in 2025, with 25% of young gamers (under 25) still using discs
✅In Spain, physical sales hit €294 million. While digital revenue seems higher (61.9%), it is heavily inflated by the inclusion of DLCs, subscriptions, and mobile apps.
✅Around 121 countries (64% of the world) lacks reliable internet or a dedicated PlayStation Store, making physical discs a strict necessity rather than just a preference.
They’ve always made statements like:
🗣️Get comfortable with not owning games
🗣️Physical games make no sense
🗣️Streaming will be mainstream in 3 years
They’ve been trying to shift their failure, greed and terrible unethical business practices onto you, and make you pay for them:
✅Phasing out physical games is a profit-driven move that threatens game ownership.
✅Allowing companies to eliminate physical media gives them unchecked monopoly power over pricing and availability, a shift that will eventually hurt digital consumers, too.
✅Making game streaming the norm will make you pay for games forever, especially with XBOX capping monthly cloud streaming limits and charging you for extra hours
Resident Evil Requiem sales were used to perpetuate the lie that only a small minority buy physical, games but worldwide sales also tell a different story:
🇺🇸22% (to end of June) in the US
🇫🇷55% physial in France
🇯🇵51% in Japan
🇦🇺43% in Australia
🇬🇧40% in UK
And Assassin’s Creed Shadows tell a similar story about how physical sales
We are not advocating for the end of digital games. We are not merely calling for nostalgia.
We are calling for:
✅Ownership rights for& digital games
✅Physical games to remain an option
✅Reformation and listening to players
✅Full compensation in case a digital game is removed from the store
NO DISC 💿 NO BUY
Former PlayStation boss Shawn Layden believes the potential end of physical game discs as disappointing but fixable🚀
✅Physical demand remains strong: Gamers continue to buy physical media, driven largely by the culture of game collecting.
✅Because Sony exclusively controls the manufacturing process for its discs, any future production relies on them.
✅If Sony stops making discs themselves, they could license the production process to specialized third-party manufacturers to keep physical games alive.
I proposed this solution multiple times before, I sincerely hope our voices are heard, now that the last truly great boss for PlayStation amplified this idea.
Keep video game discs alive because taking them away damages digital gamers as much as physical ones
NO DISC 💿 NO BUY
Legends who spoke in support of physical video game media, they represent the best of the industry, and they aren’t just “stuck in the past” but rather know the real value of physical discs🚀
✅Hideo Kojima
✅Shuji Utsumi – SEGA President & COO
✅Dan Houser – Rockstar Co-Founder
✅Sohei Niikawa – Disgaea Creator
✅Josh Fairhurst – Limited Run Co-Founder
✅Yoko Taro
✅Naoki Hamaguchi – FFVIIR Director
✅Anonymous
✅Jean-Luc Mélenchon – French Politician
✅GOG – spoke in support ownership of games as a must, digital and physical
In addition, John Linneman of Digital Foundry stated that he spoke with many studios and publishers and they bare great resentment for Sony due to their decision.
Meanwhile, those who are creatively and morally bankrupt, have no respect for gamers, a track record for disappointment and seeing games as merely a business, have been against physical games and pro-Sony’s predatory digital-only monopoly future.
Don’t give up
Stand on the right side of history
Don’t let them ruin the hobby we love
Ending physical media will negatively impact digital gamers as well
NO DISC 💿 NO BUY
THEN STOP CALLING IT “BUY.”
Sony is arguing that reasonable consumers shouldn’t believe they actually own the digital games they purchase on PlayStation.
Okay.
Then why does the store say “Buy Now” and “Confirm Purchase”?
If I’m paying full price for a revocable license, make that crystal clear BEFORE I hand you the money.
Gaming’s digital future needs MORE consumer protection. Not less.
🚨 GET MAD. GET LOUD. KEEP IT PUBLIC. TURN IT UP!!!!
And Sony's new customer-harassment
Policy.....FINE.... Good luck with that. When the whole world is pissed at you!
Nobody should threaten, intimidate, stalk or personally abuse a customer-service employee. Those workers didn't make Sony's corporate decisions, and they shouldn't be treated like punching bags.
But here's the other side of this conversation:
Sony comes from a nation with honor. But it is dishonorable to ignore those that made them great. Cowards hide in corporate boardrooms and rule like they come from Mount Olympus!
@Sony it's time for you to answer!
👉"PUBLIC CRITICISM IS NOT AUTOMATICALLY HARASSMENT."
Sony's new policy includes “persistent” or prolonged demands among the conduct it may act against.
Well, gamers have been pretty damn persistent lately. I sure as hell know I have - go ahead ban me Sony. Ohh please do!
No Disc, No Buy.
We want digital ownership.
We need answers about the word “BUY.” We have questions about what happens to the libraries we've spent years building.
And what the fu#k is a digital license? anyway,... " just an excuse for you to milk money out of gamers over and over again?"
Well @Sony we're going to KEEP asking these questions until you come out from under your rock!
Gamers, let's make the distinction crystal clear.
Don't threaten employees.
Don't target their families.
Don't stalk people.
Don't make personal attacks.
But GET MAD. GET LOUD.
Post. Comment. Ask questions. Write regulators. Contact legislators.
Cancel subscriptions if that's your choice. Spend your money somewhere else if that's your choice.
And keep challenging Sony's CORPORATE decisions in the PUBLIC forum. Don't forget to tag the media!
Look gamers, demanding accountability from a multibillion-dollar corporation is not the same thing as abusing the person answering a support ticket.
Huge kudos to @Sh00ter_Stu for putting this issue right out in the open.
His latest breakdown is worth watching:
https://t.co/6DzV3t5zPq
Sony wants customers to understand where its line is.
Good.
Gamers should make sure Sony understands where OUR line is too.

#PSBlackout Stage 1 completed!
We would like to thank everyone who helped spread the idea and took part.
Now the fight for a better gaming world continues. And we need to stand united!
PlayStation's plans set a dangerous precedent. If they go all-digital, others will follow. This will affect us all, regardless of whether you earn a living with games or just play them. Regardless of where you play or how you purchase your games.
You will lose the only form of ownership on console. The only legal form of preservation. Trade conventions/fairs will eventually die. Retailers will lose sales and close. Developers lose additional revenue and discoverability. Without physical and second hand price competition dwindles. Price hikes and fewer sales will be the new norm, pricing some people out of the hobby entirely.
And what you will pay exorbitant sums for, is not even yours to keep. Without customer protection laws everything you buy can be stripped from you at a whim. As you can witness today when over 500 Studio Canal movies get erased from people's libraries without any repercussions. What do you think happens to Wolverine when Sony and Marvel eventually part ways?
That is why we need to fight two battles at once!
We need to protect physical games as an option. For preservation, for the experience, for a healthy market, and to keep our hands on what we bought.
We need to push for better customer rights in the digital space. Actual ownership & end-of-life plans, so games don't just disappear, when a publisher ends support.
Support us! Support initiatives like Stop Killing Games! Speak to your local customer protection agencies and local politicians tasked with taking care of these topics!
Continue to make your voices heard online. The minimum requirement for the blackout has been reached. But many continue to do it. Others did their part and return to play for now. Regardless of which you are, there will be more chances in the future to take action again. Thank you all once more for standing up together. Let's continue to raise awareness and get more people on board!
“You never owned your games” is a dishonest way to frame this.
We never owned the copyright. Obviously. But when I bought a PS4 game, I owned that copy. I could play it forever, lend it to a friend, sell it, or give it to my kid 30 years later.
Digital storefronts take those rights away while continuing to use words like “BUY” and “PURCHASE.”
If what I’m paying $100 for is actually a temporary license, call it that. Use a word like RENT at check out.
Losing physical media is losing the ability to own a copy of our games in any form.
SONY, I THINK YOUR OWN ARGUMENT JUST COLLAPSED.
Nobody is claiming that buying a copy of a game means I own the copyright to the game.
"That has never been the argument."
If I buy a movie on Blu-ray, I don't own the movie studio's intellectual property.
"I own MY COPY."
If I buy an album on CD, I don't own the artist's music or the record label's copyright.
"I own MY COPY."
Millions of people can own separate copies of the exact same movie, album, book or game at the same time.
We have understood this for generations.
Apparently everyone but you!
And when I own that physical copy, I can put it into compatible hardware and use it. The studio doesn't suddenly get to argue that ownership is impossible because somebody else bought the same movie too.
So why should a video game suddenly be different just because the delivery mechanism changed from a plastic disc to digital data?
That is where Sony's reported legal argument loses me.
I'm not claiming I own Resident Evil.
I'm claiming I paid for MY COPY of Resident Evil.
Those are two completely different things.
And Xbox just made this argument even harder for @Sony to defend.
Microsoft has demonstrated that a physical game can be tied to an individualized digital entitlement.
They don't have to hand the customer the copyright. They don't have to give one person exclusive ownership of the game.
They simply have to recognize that THIS consumer paid for THIS entitlement to access THIS game.
Millions of people can each possess their own entitlement to the same copyrighted work.
"Of course they can."
Sony already assigns digital licenses to millions of PlayStation accounts every day.
So the question was never whether the technology exists.
The question is what rights the consumer receives after Sony puts the word BUY on the screen and takes their money.
Here is the distinction that matters:
I OWN MY COPY.
I DO NOT OWN THE COPYRIGHT.
Movie studios understand that.
Record labels understand that.
Book publishers understand that.
Physical video games have worked that way for decades.
What makes you any different, @Sony?
Digital distribution should not magically erase that concept simply because the corporation has more technical control over the transaction.
And if the customer pays full price while receiving fewer rights and less control, I think consumers have every right to ask who actually benefits from that arrangement.
Sony doesn't need to give me ownership of its intellectual property.
Sony needs to explain why paying full price for my copy should give Sony more control over what I purchased simply because that copy arrived as bits instead of on a disc.
And Xbox has now demonstrated that individualized digital entitlements are absolutely possible.
The movie and music industries have demonstrated the underlying principle for generations.
Sony companies themselves sell movies and music on physical media that consumers can buy, take home and play whenever they want on compatible equipment.
So please explain why video games should suddenly be treated differently.
That makes the legal argument much more difficult to defend.
That's the conversation I think Sony needs to answer.

An Asian guy is doing 63 in a 65.
Not swerving. Not on his phone. Lexus writes him up anyway:
CLOSED EYES DETECTED
LOOK FORWARD
An infrared camera in the steering column just scored his eyelids.
That is the product. Not a chime. A gaze model aimed at a specific face, deciding whether this man is allowed to look like he’s paying attention.
These systems fail unevenly. Eye shape, lid fold, glasses, height, lighting — the model was not built around every face it now polices. So the car doesn’t just watch you. It guesses. And when it guesses wrong, the dash still treats you like a problem.
You can mute the beep.
You cannot fire the camera.
Lexus says the face video “stays in the car.” The driving file does not: speed, braking, steering, attention flags. A behavior profile with a safety sticker on it.
This is the emerging surveillance state in a personal vehicle. You bought the car. They kept a supervisor. Blink, sit too low, or have the wrong face for the sensor, and the cabin writes you up.
A car that watches your eyes is not a feature. It is a checkpoint you take home.
Should a vehicle be allowed to monitor a driver’s face? I say “no.” What say you?
Sony (allegedly), using 3rd party to shutdown YT channels criticising PS.
Received this email.
"You have 3 copyright strikes. Your channel (as well as YouTube channels associated with it) is scheduled to be terminated in 7 days".
11 yrs, 0 strikes, now my channel's terminated?
🚨 SONY'S HISTORY IS THE MOST DAMNING RECEIPT OF ALL.
@Sony@PlayStation, I went digging.
Not rumors, conspiracy not anyone screaming on YouTube.
YOUR OWN TERMS, HISTORY.
AND ANNOUNCEMENTS.
Gamers need to understand exactly what they are paying for.
Let's start in 2011.
PlayStation Network suffered one of the largest gaming data breaches in history. Roughly 77 MILLION PSN accounts were involved.
Names.
Addresses.
Email addresses.
Birthdates.
Passwords and login information.
Sony shut PSN down after discovering the breach-gamers weren't told that their information had been stolen until about a WEEK later. Good job Sony!
The UK's Information Commissioner's fined Sony 250,000P and said the attack could have been prevented if the software had been kept up to date. 🤔
That alone should have permanently changed the conversation about PSN.
Oh, I'm just getting started.
Fast-forward to SONY'S CURRENT 2026 TERMS OF SERVICE.
Sony actually tells you that the words:
"own"
"ownership"
"purchase"
"sale"
"rent"
and "buy"
DO NOT MEAN OWNERSHIP HAS BEEN TRANSFERRED TO YOU.
Yup.
You press BUY.
You pay REAL MONEY.
Sony's agreement says that doesn't mean you OWN the content.
Instead, PlayStation content is provided under a NON-EXCLUSIVE, REVOCABLE license.
And deeper in those same terms?
Sony says it can suspend or discontinue online access to content or data associated with your account WITHOUT NOTICE OR LIABILITY.
Sony says it can discontinue certain content or features.
Sony says that when content depends on online servers, it makes NO COMMITMENT to continue making those servers available.
"They even reserve the right to delete player account data they determine has been dormant."
Um we're supposed to believe an all-digital future is somehow BETTER for gamers?👈
We've already seen what this can look like.
In 2023 Sony announced that previously PURCHASED Discovery video content would be removed from people's PS libraries because of licensing arrangements.
PURCHASED.
The removal was eventually stopped after the licensing situation changed.
Think.
The thing protecting those customers wasn't ownership. It was another licensing agreement being worked out behind the scenes.
Then-Helldivers 2.
Sony tried to force Steam players into mandatory PSN account linking after launch.
Players revolted.
Reviews cratered.
The situation affected availability across scores of countries.
Sony backed down. Why?
Gamers PUSHED BACK.
And here's another one people need to remember. In 2021 Sony planned to shut down purchasing on the PS3 and Vita stores.
Gamers raised hell.
Sony reversed the decision, and Jim Ryan himself wrote:
"It's clear that we made the wrong decision here."
Five years later?
Sony announced they're closing them again, beginning in select markets in 2026 with broader PS3/Vita closures coming in 2027.
Previously purchased games?
Sony says you'll still be able to download them "for the foreseeable future."
FORESEEABLE FUTURE.👈
Those aren't my words.
THEY'RE SONY'S.
And Sony's current terms also contain binding individual arbitration and a class-action waiver unless you exercise the applicable opt-out rights.
So here's my question for every gamer reading this:
HOW MUCH CONTROL ARE YOU WILLING TO GIVE ONE SONY?
"We paid the way for their success!"
It seems like we're constantly pouring money into this company, but we're constantly getting screwed!
Yet the further gaming moves toward digital-only distribution, the more control moves AWAY FROM THE CUSTOMER.
@Xbox@Microsoft@NintendoAmerica -ARE YOU WATCHING?
"This is an enormous opportunity sitting right in front of you."
Give us ownership.
Protect physical media.
Protect preservation.
Respect the people spending the money.
Sony's biggest problem isn't people "putting them in a bad light."
"THEIR OWN WORDS ARE DOING THAT JUST FINE."

🚨 GLOVES OFF! @SONY, A REMINDER OF WHO PAID THE WAY.
@Sony@PlayStation, you didn’t become one of the biggest names in gaming by yourselves. WE PAID YOUR WAY!
Every console bought. Every $60 and $70 game. Every controller, headset, accessory, and PS Plus price hike we complained about and paid anyway because we loved the platform.
That was OUR money.
We paid for the corporate offices, executive salaries, bonuses, luxury lifestyles, and private jets. Somebody funded the empire. It was the people standing in line, the parents buying games for their kids, and the lifelong fans defending the brand for decades.
And now you’re taking advantage of the very people who put you there?
We aren't asking for much. Just a basic consumer right: A CHOICE.
Physical games matter. Ownership matters. Preservation matters. We want to hold, lend, trade, sell, and collect what we buy.
Instead of listening, leadership acknowledges the backlash and keeps moving forward. Your CFO’s recent comments were a direct slap in the face.
That arrogance is exactly why this blackout matters.
Sony, don't sit in a boardroom surrounded by dominant market-share numbers and forget the millions of individual wallets they came from.
Those numbers are us. We paid your way to the top!
You’re biting the hand that fed you-and you need to remember: You are NOT the only game in town.
@Xbox is still here.
@Steam is still here.
Every time you strip away consumer choice, you make the competition look that much better.
If Xbox doubles down on physical disks while you phase them out, you might be shocked at how many loyalists look across the fence.
All @XBOX would need to do is put out a statement that they will continue to press discs. You could lose half of your customer base in a single afternoon. Let that sink in.....
Complacency has buried corporations before. Being on top for a long time gives people a dangerous habit of thinking they can’t fall.
They can.
Listen to your players. Respect the people who built this platform alongside you. Give us the choice.
Never forget whose pockets that money came from. Ours!

This is EXACTLY what we’re warning about.
Content you “purchased” can disappear from your library because a licensing agreement changes.
Now imagine a digital-only future where your entire game library works under the same basic principle: you don’t own a permanent copy... you own access subject to a license.
And even after removing something you PAID FOR, @Sony actually end the notice with “Thank you.” 💀
This is why ownership and physical media matters. This is why consumer choice matters.
