1. Check if the person responds
Tap their shoulders.
Ask them a question loudly. Something like "are you ok?"
2. Call for help
If they don't respond, call emergency services or ask someone else to call.
Ask for an Automatic External Defibrillator if one is available.
3. Check if they are breathing
Look at their chest for up to 10 seconds.
If they are not breathing normally, start CPR.
4. Do chest compressions
Put the heel of one hand in the center of the chest.
Put your other hand on top.
Push hard and fast.
Let the chest come back up after each push.
Do 30 compressions.
5. Give 2 breaths
Tilt the head back and lift the chin.
Pinch the nose closed.
Give 2 breaths, making sure the chest rises.
The 30 chest compressions and 2 rescue breaths should be done in one minute.
6. Keep repeating
30 compressions, 2 breaths
Continue until:
The person starts breathing.
Help arrives.
An Automatic External Defibrillator is available and ready to use.
