Tinubu’s APC is becoming a painful symbol of misplaced priorities.

If reports that Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni donated N300 million to Sheikh Yahaya Jingir’s Izala faction in Jos are accurate, then Nigerians are entitled to ask a very uncomfortable question: what exactly is government for?

Because while political and religious alliances are being funded with eye-watering sums, ordinary citizens are struggling to survive.

In Yobe State, families battling kidney disease reportedly face enormous difficulty accessing dialysis, especially in places like Gashua where patients and relatives have repeatedly cried out over inadequate facilities and equipment.

That contrast is morally disturbing.

A government that can find hundreds of millions for religious or political patronage should never be unable to find money for machines that keep citizens alive.

This is the tragedy of APC governance.

Too much money for politics.

Too much money for loyalty.

Too much money for image-building.

But when ordinary Nigerians need hospitals, drugs, dialysis, roads, security or jobs, suddenly government begins speaking the language of scarcity.

And this becomes even more troubling when the religious beneficiaries are associated with political narratives such as the Muslim-Muslim ticket that helped Tinubu’s APC consolidate support.

Religion should never become a marketplace where political loyalty is rewarded while sick citizens are left to beg for treatment.

A dialysis machine does not care whether a patient voted APC, ADC, PDP or Labour.

Kidney failure does not recognise tribe, religion or political affiliation.

That is why governance must be about human life first.

If APC wants Nigerians to believe that its priorities are right, then let it explain why politically useful institutions appear easier to fund than lifesaving healthcare.

A government should be remembered for hospitals built, lives saved and communities protected.

Not for how much money it distributed to those capable of blessing its politics.

Nigeria deserves better than this politics of patronage dressed as governance.
