@Grain_Cycles What decides a short crop? Is the crop shorter than we thought, yes but it’s still a massive crop. Am not trying to argue or say you are wrong am just curious how to look at it.
@Matthew1530896@DannyAssman@TheGrainiac@FearlessGrain The merchandiser goes short the board. FC Stones clients are mostly commercial elevators. They don’t care what flat price is, they make money on spreads and basis and logistics. Doesn’t matter if they buy corn at $4 or at $6 they don’t spect trade bushels bought from farmers.
An absolute joke. They represent commercials and want low prices. I bet hardly one person who responds to the survey ever walks in the field. 14 and 16 this year and last year mostly 18 and 20
@cb_catt@cer_hedge I always looked at it that a lot of payments and cash rents are set up on 3 or 5 years so a chunck of your inputs are probably already know at least enough you should look at 10-20% of crop
@FarmerTheta@NickHorob This is no bs….two months ago I ask chat gpt to make me a marketing plan for corn. I told it my breakeven, that I wanted to be 50-70% sold by July 1. First sale it said to make $4.85 on March 15…I thought it was nuts.
@ckleene@GrainStats Where are all these corn acres switching to beans? Corn been a better play all along. Had really open fall lots of Nitrogen already put on. Corns damn near $5 on board farmers gonna plant corn.
@BradyD78 Probably can’t on normal bushels. But you can sell 26, 27, and 28 corn .50-.70 higher than that now so if you are super worried about getting under that maybe hedge some.
@BradyD78 Not saying he’s wrong but the no notable drought signals scares me more than anything after so many called for a drought last year and where dead wrong haha.
@gwiesefarms@BradyD78 So when you say plenty of equity your not talking straight working capital. You mean equity in equipment and land that they could term negative working capital out against?
@BradyD78 I fully agree. If it goes higher hopefully you still go 50% to sell or you always got next years crop. The farmer is a natural long until he decides to retire that’s the only time he will truly be short the market. Better to be short and wrong early than long and wrong late.
