@IAmFloridaBorn Being a landlocked city in Florida and the traffic from all the tourism (yes Tampa has this issue on a smaller scale too) are a dealbreaker for me wanting to be there for more than a day or two. But if those don’t bother you then I’m sure it’s not much different than Tampa
@TrainaStrong@BHartranft@TheTruthSwagner They’d get even more rev share money than they do now if they add a cap. So essentially the bigger market teams will just be paying for them to spend more on their payroll which is why they’re fine with having a requirement to spend
@KyleLora1gas@JamieDyckes@TheBambinoBabe2 You don’t see this as an issue? “Well some of those low spending teams have made it to a WS like the Rays” Yeah, well, what happened when they got there? Let me know when a low spending team with a good front office actually wins a WS then I’ll think everything is fine as is
@TJStats@TalksToPeople And for those that say, “teams like the Rockies, A’s and Pirates wouldn’t win a WS even if they were forced to spend” You’re probably right. But what about teams like the Guardians, Rays, and Brewers if the difference in league payroll was similar to other professional leagues?
@TJStats@TalksToPeople I wonder why 99% of fans of big market teams are against a floor/cap and are claiming they’re against it because “it only helps the owners make more money”. I want what’s fair for the players too, but cmon, something needs to change when it comes to competitive balance people
@TJStats@TalksToPeople “90% of World Series champions have come from the top half of the league in payroll, 70% in the top 10” yet some people want to act like there isn’t a huge correlation between spending money and winning a WS
@TSalivals@TrentScheids@walmartworkerr@JeffPassan Not biased towards either and it’s hard for me to argue against one being better than the other. But I looked up the Phillies defensive stats and wow… that makes a pitcher like Sanchez having the success he’s had this season extremely impressive tbf😂
@RandylandSZN That game might’ve been the loudest sporting event I’ve ever been to and I’ve been to a lot of playoff/championship games in multiple sports at the college and pro levels
@FatStacksKelsey@CWardyy@nickysmokess@jasonpopes5 My home club is 6400 if they have the markers as far back as possible and that’s even after they renovated it to make it play harder. They host one of the biggest 3 day mid-am tournaments in the US there every year and this year the winner finished -1 through 54 holes
@DlVlD7@SNYGiants His point was that those tragedies are uncomfortable parts of history to discuss but they helped us get to where we are now. He wasn’t trying to claim that those tragedies are the same as anything happening in the present
@MyOnlyOne2004@WizzerdWonda@TalkinBaseball_ That’s true and unless they open the books to the public people would never know how cheap some owners are. Maybe they need to make that information public
@OGCHB@skraxxy@SteelCityVet95@JonathanJ51318 Bad coaching/front office. That’s a big reason why the NHL, NBA, and NFL have higher turnover for coaches and GMs than the MLB. If all teams spend a similar amount of money on a roster, those people don’t have as much of an excuse for not winning a championship
@skraxxy@SteelCityVet95@JonathanJ51318 I’m not 100% sold on a cap/floor as the solution but it has the potential if done right. I don’t want the players getting screwed either but if they won’t agree to a cap they need to at least acknowledge the issues at the bottom and work with the league to find an alternative fix
@skraxxy@SteelCityVet95@JonathanJ51318 A bad org will always be bad even if they spend a lot. Well run org will always be a “contender” most years. But teams like CLE, TB, MIL, etc are great orgs but they’d have to have so much go their way to realistically win a WS against an LA or NY at their current payroll
@Farris214@johnsaponaro That’ll probably change soon either way. I do agree with you about all TV revenue being equally distributed is bs but they might have to do that to a degree to actually create more balance plus every team would likely be under the same TV deal instead of it being independent
@Farris214@johnsaponaro I’ve done some research on their TV deal but not enough to act like I know every detail. I know it involves something along the lines of the Dodgers getting a bigger kickback percentage in their tv deal compared to other teams because of the circumstances when it was agreed upon
