Nigeria’s politicians are running towards 2027 like men and women trying to cross a river on the backs of crocodiles, jumping from one alliance to another, grabbing any new cause or ally that might keep them afloat, while biting, abusing and trampling each other along the way.

Meanwhile, Nigerians are struggling to eat, stay safe and trust their government. The alarm bells are deafening, the cost of living is soaring, insecurity is deepening, disinformation is spreading and trust is collapsing.

Yet the political class appears to have no grand idea, no compelling national project - just the next alliance, the next defection, the next tactical advantage.

And that may be the tragedy when 2027 comes. It may simply return the same swarm of rogues who helped wreck the country in the first place.
