[Bennett-Watkins Fire Rescue @BennettFirePIO]

Bennett-Watkins Fire Rescue is proud to recognize the continued partnership and generous support of SM Energy. Most recently, SM Energy donated $16,972 to equip the District’s Community Risk Reduction staff with critical safety-focused air-monitoring equipment, helping protect personnel who work in and around industry operations throughout our community. This contribution builds upon a strong history of partnership that has included the donation of specialized oil and gas industry training props at the District’s training facility in Watkins, Colorado and significant funding toward the acquisition of a hazardous materials and technical rescue response vehicle, which ensures our first responders are cared for and equipped to serve the community. Over the past four years, SM Energy has provided nearly $200,000 in public safety support to Bennett-Watkins Fire Rescue which has significantly helped BWFR increase preparedness and service levels. This ongoing partnership demonstrates the shared commitment of SM Energy and BWFR to protecting the health, environment, and safety of our community through collaboration, preparedness, and investment in the people and resources that keep our community safe.

Dangerous fire weather conditions are expected due to:
💨 West winds gusting 30–40 mph

🔥 Dry vegetation and fuels
These conditions can cause fires to start easily and spread rapidly.
Please help reduce the risk:
❌ Avoid outdoor burning
❌ Do not park vehicles on dry grass
❌ Properly dispose of cigarettes and smoking materials
❌ Avoid activities that create sparks
If you see smoke or fire, call 911 immediately.

Thank you to the @NWS for providing today's forecast information.

Yesterday's fire near High Plains Raceway demonstrated the strength of teamwork and regional cooperation. Bennett-Watkins Fire Rescue would like to thank all responding agencies and personnel who worked together to contain the fire and protect our communities.

We are proud to stand alongside our partners from Arapahoe County, Agate, Byers, Deer Trail, Sable Altura, Strasburg, Colorado State Patrol, the Arapahoe County Wildland Fire Team, and Southwest Washington County Fire Protection District.
Incidents like these remind us that no single agency fights alone. Through collaboration, communication, and shared commitment, we are able to provide the best possible service to the communities we protect.

Thank you to every firefighter, law enforcement officer, dispatcher, and support personnel involved in this response.

As conditions remain dry and fire danger remains elevated, please continue to use caution and do your part to prevent wildfires.

[Arapahoe Sheriff @ArapahoeSO]

Arapahoe sheriff deputies are still on the scene of a tire fire that began as a grass fire around 3:30 p.m. today near High Plains Raceway, northeast of Deer Trail along U.S. Highway 36.

The grass fire jumped a concrete barrier and ignited a stack of tires at the raceway. Five deputies responded to assist as multiple fire departments and a helicopter worked to contain the blaze.

Approximately 20 acres burned. The grass fire has been extinguished, but the tire pile continues to smolder.

No injuries or additional property damage have been reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Responding agencies: @ArapahoeSO, Agate Fire, @BennettFirePIO, @ByersFD, @CSP_News, Deer Trail Fire, @ArapahoeCounty Wildland Fire, @SableAlturaFire, Southwest Washington County Fire, and @StrasburgFire.

SAFETY REMINDER: RATTLESNAKES ARE ACTIVE!
With warmer weather settling into our area, rattlesnakes are becoming increasingly active throughout the Eastern Plains. Bennett-Watkins Fire Rescue has already responded to and transported a patient for a rattlesnake bite this season, and we encourage everyone to remain vigilant while spending time outdoors.

Prompt medical treatment is critical. Anti-venom is highly effective when administered by medical professionals, so do not delay seeking care.

Stay safe, stay alert, and be mindful of your surroundings as you enjoy the outdoors this summer.

Mental health matters — on and off the fireground. 💚

At Bennett-Watkins Fire Rescue, we recognize the importance of supporting the mental wellness of our crews and our community. The calls we respond to, the situations we face, and the stress carried behind the scenes can have a lasting impact.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, we want to remind everyone that asking for help is a sign of strength — not weakness. You are never alone.

Thank you to our Peer Support Team and to all those who continue working to break the stigma surrounding mental health in the fire service. 🚒

Construction is officially beginning on the long-awaited training facility at Station 92! 🔥

This project represents an important investment in the future of Bennett-Watkins Fire Rescue and the continued development of our firefighters, medics, and emergency responders. As our community grows and call volumes continue to increase, realistic hands-on training becomes even more critical to maintaining the level of service our community depends on.

[Bennett-Watkins Fire Rescue @BennettFirePIO]

Behind every call is a crew ready to answer—no matter the risk.
Today we celebrate the dedication, sacrifice, and heart of our firefighters at Bennett-Watkins Fire Rescue.
You don’t do it for recognition… but you deserve it.
We see you. We thank you. We appreciate you.

Growth doesn’t stop — and neither do we.

Since 2020, our call volume has increased by 33.9% as our community continues to grow. More people, more development, and more demand for emergency response means preparing for what’s next.

Serving 365 square miles takes more than response — it takes training, equipment, facilities, and the resources to keep pace with a changing community.

We’re committed to staying ready today while planning for the future our district deserves.
