I agree! I love that "Understanding Decimal Notation for Fractions" includes the technique of using money. Like you said, I also believe that this is a topic most students have prior knowledge on and may be excited to learn more about in terms of the value money has!
"Understanding Decimal Notation for Fractions" discussed a great technique of comparing decimals to money. Money is something lots of students have prior knowledge with and can compare it to the things they are learning about decimal notation. #431MNSUF19
I love that you took note of the 5 Indicators of Decimal Understanding from this weeks readings! I too found them to be a very valuable resource when teaching students about decimals!

From 5 Indicators of Decimals Understanding by Cramer, Monson, Ahrendt, Colum, Wiley, and Weyberg. I loved being able to see the student work and their understanding of the relationship between decimals and fractions. Then also the misconceptions with decimals. #431MNSUF19
"Targeting misconceptions before they become a problem"...what a great idea to introduce your students to decimals and the value they hold before you dive into a lesson! Great resource link to reference!

Students may find that comparing and ordering fractions/decimals is tough! As educators, we must remember to provide opportunities for our students to succeed in decimal and fractional value with models and accurate math language!

Thanks so much for sharing this wonderful bulletin board! Teaching certain aspects of history may be difficult, but it is awesome to see that teachers are acknowledging that difficulty, and still choosing to make the most of it!

I love this saying, "color is one of the things that make your students unique". This is something to keep in mind as educators. It's color, culture, and diversity in our students that make them unique individuals.....individuals that make up one unified classroom

I couldn't agree more about choosing workstations instead of worksheets! As a student myself, even at the college level, I benefit more from working socially with my classmates in groups/stations, than I do with worksheets. This link is such a great resource!
