This is due to the crystalline structure of ice and how it pushes its molecules far apart. This can be seen when ice cubes (less dense) float in water (more dense).

@hifacter @HamishSymington That would be interesting to see and I'minterested in that video you are referring to, however, is it still considered "dark" if bees can see UV? It will be dark to us but maybe not to them.
