Could a "universal vaccine" protect us from future virus outbreaks? 🦠
A Cambridge team has developed an entirely new way of making vaccines. Using data from virus surveillance programmes around the world, they used AI to design a ‘super antigen’.
This can create a single vaccine that provides lasting protection against a broad range of viruses - like the Ebola or coronavirus group - even as they mutate into new variants.
The results of the first human clinical trial of this technology found it is safe and well tolerated.
This could prevent future pandemics before they even begin.

FDA’s approves gene therapy, Kresladi, for severe LAD-I, a rare inherited immune disorder caused by ITGB2 gene mutations leading to life-threatening infections in children. The autologous therapy from Rocket Pharmaceuticals modifies patients’ hematopoietic stem cells to express functional CD18/CD11a proteins, restoring neutrophil function via a single infusion. #LAD-1 #ChristinaGalbraith

Deafness reversed: One injection restores hearing in just weeks
A new gene therapy is giving people born deaf the chance to hear, often within just weeks.
In a small but groundbreaking study, researchers delivered a working copy of a key hearing gene directly into the inner ear using a single injection.
All 10 patients, ranging from young children to adults, experienced improved hearing, with some showing rapid gains in just one month.
