Our Mandate: Manufacture, package and commercialize specialized health products and technologies including vaccines, therapeutics and other biomedical products.
Academia, industry and government came together at the Public Lecture and Stakeholder Engagement Forum on โAcademia, Industry and the Trigger for Local Manufacturingโ to advance Kenyaโs local biopharmaceutical manufacturing agenda. Prof. Stephen Gacheru emphasized that beyond research and science, drug development is an end-to-end ecosystem requiring knowledge, regulation, infrastructure, financing and market readiness to work together.
Dr. @fnoluga, Principal Secretary, @MOHMedServices, @MOH_Kenya, called for stronger linkage between research, academia, industry, regulation, financing and procurement to strengthen Kenyaโs health independence. He further challenged universities to shift from being primarily publication-driven to becoming proprietary and innovation-driven institutions that convert knowledge into products, enterprises and public health solutions.
Dr. Charles Githinji, @BioVaxInstitute Board Chairman, noted that local manufacturing must be treated as an end-to-end national health security priority, with plans underway for a dedicated symposium to sustain the momentum.

Advancing Africaโs health security requires stronger coordination between manufacturers, continental institutions, and procurement platforms. In this spirit, the @BioVaxInstitute, led by Dr. @cecilia_wanjala , General Manager, Commercial Services, held a stakeholder engagement meeting with the @AfricaCDC team at the Africa CDC Offices in Nairobi to discuss Africaโs pooled procurement mechanisms. The engagement provided an opportunity to explore how coordinated procurement can improve access to essential health products, support predictable demand, strengthen market pathways for local manufacturers, and contribute to sustainable vaccine and biotherapeutics production across the continent.

๐ฐ๐ช Advancing Kenyaโs capacity for vaccine and specialized biologics manufacturing requires strong partnerships, evidence-informed planning, and a clear understanding of market opportunities. In this regard, @BioVaxInstitute held a meeting with @PATHtweets to discuss a proposed vaccine landscape assessment aimed at guiding investment priorities, policy decisions, portfolio diversification, and alignment with global health security goals. The Kenya BioVax team, led by Dr. @Muteru03, engaged the PATH team led by Ruth Wanjala on the importance of co-creating solutions with end users to ensure that future manufacturing priorities respond to public health needs, market realities, and Kenyaโs broader ambition of building sustainable local capacity for vaccines and specialized biologics.

Advancing local vaccine manufacturing requires bold ideas, strong partnerships and practical action. At the @IVIHeadquarters side event during #WHA79 in Geneva, @BioVaxInstitute CEO, Dr. Wesley Ronoh, participated as a speaker and highlighted key interventions needed to promote biomanufacturing self-reliance, including strengthening national and regional vaccine manufacturing ecosystems, investing in regulatory and quality infrastructure, expanding sustainable technology transfer initiatives, developing scientific and manufacturing capacity, and supporting market sustainability through predictable demand.
Kenya BioVax is committed to moving from policy to practice by building the partnerships, systems and capabilities required to advance local production, regional health security and Africaโs journey toward vaccine and biotherapeutics manufacturing self-reliance. ๐ฐ๐ช๐ #KenyaBioVax #IVI #WHA79 #VaccineManufacturing #Biomanufacturing #HealthSecurity #LocalManufacturing #TechnologyTransfer #AfricaHealthSecurity
Strengthening global partnerships for local manufacturing remains central to @BioVaxInstituteโs agenda. On the sidelines of the 79th World Health Assembly in Geneva ๐จ๐ญ, @BioVaxInstitute CEO, Dr. @wronoh , convened a meeting with @biofarmaID Indonesiaโs leadership ๐ฎ๐ฉ, led by the President Director, Mr. Shadiq Akasya. During the meeting, they advanced the ongoing discussions on potential partnership opportunities in technology transfer and biomanufacturing capacity building, reflecting a shared commitment to advancing South-South cooperation, vaccine and biotherapeutics manufacturing, and Africaโs journey towards health security and manufacturing self-reliance. ๐ฐ๐ช๐

@BioVaxInstitute participated in the Science, Technology, Research, and Innovation for Society Week 2026, a national platform that brought together government, researchers, academia, innovators, industry players, and development partners to reflect on the role of science and innovation in driving sustainable development. The Institute was represented by Dr. @cecilia_wanjala , who discussed how Kenya can better translate research, technology, and innovation into practical solutions that respond to national and regional needs.
BioVaxโs participation underscored the Instituteโs place within Kenyaโs broader science and innovation ecosystem, particularly in advancing local vaccine manufacturing, strengthening health security, and reducing dependence on imported health products.
