@NuanceRational@pinkheretic I tend to agree some behaviors are objectively wrong at least in the same culture. It is possible something like murder is objectively immoral across most if not all cultures.
@telltaleatheist LOL as if a President would ever cut out the power of the President. Hell we can’t even get one to reduce just a little, the power of the Presidency.
@nebuladao Yes will those who produced them or those who bought them control them. Will the ownership be distributed or under the control of a few. As we put more robots into work and home this becomes an issue. If you bring the new Amazon robot into your home are you bringing in Amazon?
@JK_Riki@Yen_Daya For me it is not a matter of thinking there are many gods but realizing there is no objective standard to decide between them. Your arbitrary scale is just a way to ignore this understanding. Your arrogance is in thinking only yours is found through wisdom.
@smellin_coffee @NoHolyScripture I am not sure that “atheists in a foxhole” is even a thing. A much more likely explanation, if it is, is fear would drive such a conversion rather than some bubbling subconscious belief.
We only need to look as far as the shocking ease with which Christian social infrastructure has been weaponized to create vaccine skepticism to conclusively say that, at this point in human history, Christianity is not a force for good in the world.
@JK_Riki@Yen_Daya The truth of there being a god, gods, demigods, whatever does not depend on if one likes or dislikes them. The truth of whatever being beyond being there may be is in the evidence. The objective evidence is less than scant.
@JK_Riki@Yen_Daya It is not a matter of disliking it, it is a matter that it conveniently makes it impossible to falsify gods . No matter how horrible, no matter how many believers die, you always have mysterious ways to wave away legitimate doubts. The ultimate get out of jail free card.
@JK_Riki No it is not a matter of just personal emotions or “feeling.” That is the purview of religion. I am talking about objectively testing actions. When is the best time to plant. What plants can kill you. What behavior helps you & your group thrive. There is right and wrong.
@JK_Riki@Yen_Daya It’s the old “god is so beyond our understanding that anything like saying my god cannot apply.” It is a necessary position because then one can say god is beyond reason and logic. God becomes unfalsifiable which is very convenient.
@JK_Riki@Yen_Daya@paulogia0 It requires adequate knowledge of the world and the ability to determine what enhances survival and what reduces the chances of survival . For people survival of the group can be even important than individual survival.

This is such a lazy stupid take. The truth is, Biden has zero real power over Manchin. It's such an easy trick to set up an impossible bar, claim it's actually possible or even easy, then use failure as proof of bad motives. It's bad faith.
