Hello Twitter! We're the Boutz Lab at @UR_Med & @UofR in Rochester, NY. Our group uses bioinformatic and molecular biology tools to investigate rna processing machinery and its applications in medicine and beyond. Tweets are made by lab members, and members are made by rna.
I just did an updated calculation of what happens to America if we do nothing. And it is nothing short of terrifying.
The current rate of spread is a near-perfect exponential. If we do not change our behavior dramatically and fast, here is what the math says: 1/n
On Thursdays, we usually highlight a single RNA scientist on our little platform. But since the Women In Science-Day was just two days ago, we wanted to take the opportunity to emphasize the importance and necessity of female researchers in general and in our field. (1/4)
@UR_Med@UofR Meet Molly Hulver - another rotation student in the lab! Molly is interested in post-transcriptional modification and her cats. Fun fact: she ran her first marathon this year!

Meet Joseph Bucukovski, the lab's 1st rotation student! Joe earned his BS and MS in Biomedical Engineering at the @UofR, after which he spent several years in biotech. He's interested in biosensors, emerging mol bio techniques, & cryo-EM. Fun fact: he just had a baby!
Great symposium today @WilmotCancer - here are Tom and Robbin presenting our poster about the consequences of CDK12 loss-of-function in intronic polyadenylation and its role in cancer!
We're excited to welcome Dr. Carla Falkson to @WilmotCancer & @UofR!
She serves as Director of our Breast Oncology Clinical Research Program. Her research focus is #breastcancer clinical trials & she has a particular interest in HER2 & bone metastasis.
Welcome! #BCSM#ROC
From a paper published in @nature yesterday by @HarvardMed scientists.
I just reported it to the EiC, with shaking hands and pounding heart because scary to see that this passed #peerreview and editorial screening in such a high impact journal.
Big congrats to our friends across the hall and especially to the "Outstanding Investigator" himself @mitchellrayoco1! Well deserved. We can't wait to see more of the lab's cool research on CRISPR-Cas systems. #teamRNA
I'm thrilled (and relieved!) to announce that my lab has been awarded our first ever NIH grant: an R35 MIRA! Super grateful to @NIH / @NIGMS for 5 years of funding to continue our on how RNA-targeting CRISPR-Cas systems work!
