@RobotSynergy What about Luke 23:43 where Jesus says to the repentant thief being crucified next to him: “Truly I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.”
@varadmehta When Emerson polled Trump/Harris they had similar results (Harris at 94% D and Trump at 89% R) but in the end Harris got 95% and Trump 94% of their partisans.
@Victormaximog@WASPmexicano@karnacleth9zmi But that wasn’t the result of domestic unrest. It was because Russia invaded and took Finland. This whole debate is about whether multiculturalism produces domestic unrest. No one would include foreign invasions or colonies in such an analysis.
@dividendology Cash flow is overrated. Maybe if it was all used for buybacks or dividends. But instead companies just sit on it. Having lots of ways to reinvest in growth is a positive not a negative.
@desirecode_ My hobbies as a single guy were (are) model railroading, toy soldier collecting and military history. But I was tall and made a lot of money so it didn’t matter.
@Victormaximog@WASPmexicano@karnacleth9zmi Continuous democratic government wasn’t the claim. The ACW which cost 600,000 dead and devastated large parts of the country is much worse domestic unrest than a bloodless coup against Gustav IV. I don’t even know what your UK argument is.
@Victormaximog@WASPmexicano@karnacleth9zmi He said “any” which literally means that the US had less domestic unrest than every single European country in the last 250 years. You’re cherry picking the worst countries when that’s not what he set the bar at. I just have to find one with less like Sweden or England.
@Victormaximog@WASPmexicano@karnacleth9zmi This is what the OP said about the US: “[it] has suffered less internal conflict than any of them [European countries] in the last 250 years alone.” The ACW is certainly sufficient to refute that statement. Not to mention that the American Revolution was a civil war too.
@Victormaximog@WASPmexicano@karnacleth9zmi Why are you counting those in aggregate? This debate is about individual countries’ multiculturalism. And the OP is claiming that European countries had far more domestic strife than the USA. Russia, Ireland and Yugoslavia are certainly not culturally homogeneous.
@SandyofCthulhu Something else to consider is that Franco kept Spain out of WW2. A communist Spain would also certainly have ended up being occupied by Germany after the Fall of France. This would have been a disaster for Spain.
@SandyofCthulhu It was the Left that started the Spanish Civil War by stealing an election, illegally expelling conservative parliament members and then using the state police to murder the head of the Conservative Party. It was only after all this that Franco agreed to support a coup.
@Restructuring__ Was in a similar spot 17 years ago (net worth was probably only $1mm). Took the plunge and started my own firm. Made a huge difference.
