Apologies for the huge delay in uploads, but I figured 7 months was long enough, because it's time for my favorite video every year!
MLB 2026 Breakout Candidates!
@Elprez_epm@MLBNow@MLBNetwork Yea like, most talented is what I interpret as the BEST, but his accomplishments and resume are not GREATEST worthy. But that's just the way I view it, and it varies from person to person
@Gravel_sense My past view was that he had absolutely zero value as a big league starter. That has absolutely changed. I don't think he's *this* great, but I think he's an above average SP, minimum.
@Gravel_sense I don't know. Great K/BB, allowing hard contact, but why does it matter if a good chunk of that hard contact is on the ground?
The sweeper and cutter are amazing when they're in the general vicinity of the zone, good results and whiffs on the 4 seamer but a lot of loud contact.
@deannalane2009@MLBNow@MLBNetwork Yes he's not the greatest player of all time, because his accomplishments just are not there. But in terms of the pure talent level of any player (what I think of by best), I'd take his ability to hit and pitch at an elite level above everyone else.
@PhillipsScottA@Ryan_shannon1@MarinersSteve Dude, you do realize that Jarren Duran has a career 72 wRC+ against lefties, right?
For reference, Canzone had a 113 against lefties in 2025.
@Ryan_shannon1@PhillipsScottA@MarinersSteve Robert has been even worse too and not even good defensively. Suggesting that this team needs an outfielder doesn't make sense, and both Robert and Duran make even less sense.
Carlos Santana in 2022 (league average hitter) slashed .223/.393/.479 for a .872 OPS in high leverage.
In 2023, he was still a league average hitter, but in high leverage he slashed .210/.303/.360 for a .663 OPS.
Situational hitting is not a skill. Being a good hitter is.
That 4th inning at bat was Colson Montgomery’s 80th plate appearance with runners in scoring position, which leads baseball.
In those chances:
.200/.300/.343 .643 OPS
29 strikeouts (36% K rate)
He’s been a great player but he needs to be better at situational hitting
