BTG Joins Project Steering Committee for the Supporting the Localization Agenda in Nigeria’s North Central and North West.
Bridge That Gap Initiative (BTG) was represented at the Inception, Governance, Delivery-Footprint Confirmation and Co-Creation Meeting for the Supporting the Localization Agenda in Nigeria’s North Central and North West initiative, held on 24 September 2026 in Abuja.
The meeting organised by Women's Right to Education Programme (WREP), with support from the Christian Aid @CAID_Nigeria seeks to- strengthen locally led humanitarian action by increasing the leadership, participation, capacity and influence of Local and National NGOs (LNNGOs) and affected communities; move localisation beyond participation towards leadership, ownership, resourcing and shared decision-making; use a Survivor and Community-Led Response (SCLR) approach so communities identify priorities and eligible local actors can access flexible micro-grants for community-defined solutions.
A key highlight of the meeting was the establishment of the Project Steering Committee (PSC), which will provide strategic oversight, review progress and risks, and support key decision-making throughout the project.
We are pleased to share that Bridge That Gap Initiative was nominated as a member of the Project Steering Committee (PSC).
This opportunity strengthens BTG’s role in advancing locally led humanitarian action, community ownership, meaningful participation and accountable decision-making. The project seeks to shift localisation beyond participation towards greater local leadership, ownership, resourcing and shared decision-making, while enabling communities to identify and shape solutions to their priorities.
For BTG, this representation provides an important platform to contribute to grassroots perspectives and experiences to project governance and implementation, while supporting approaches that place affected communities and local actors at the centre of humanitarian decision-making.
As a PSC member, BTG looks forward to contributing to a process that strengthens local leadership, community ownership, transparent decision-making and accessible financing in Kaduna, and Plateau States.

Amplifying What Kaduna Women Want
Bridge That Gap Initiative (BTG) participated in the Women’s Electoral & Governance Demand Forum under the Strengthening Inclusive Peace Project (SIPP), organised by the Gender Awareness Trust (GAT) with support from Strengthening Peace Resilience in Nigeria (SPRiNG).
The forum brought together diverse women leaders and young women to discuss What Women Want from elections and governance, identify issues affecting their participation, leadership and influence, and develop recommendations for more inclusive and responsive electoral and governance processes.
What do we mean by women’s participation?
Women’s participation goes beyond simply casting a ballot. Women can engage in elections and governance:
🗳️ AS VOTERS, register, vote and make informed choices.
📋AS CANDIDATES, contest elections and seek public office.
📣AS CAMPAIGNERS, participate in campaigns, mobilisation and advocacy.
👩🏽💼AS LEADERS, lead within political parties, communities and institutions.
🤝AS CITIZENS & ADVOCATES, Engage government, organise and advocate for change.
The recommendations generated from the forum will inform a 13-week radio programme, “What Kaduna Women Want,” providing a wider platform to amplify women’s voices, highlight their priorities and bring their recommendations into public discussion.
📻 Stay tuned for “What Kaduna Women Want” and join the conversation.

🕊️ INVEST IN PEACE; FOR EVERYONE, EVERYWHERE, EVERY DAY
🌍In a world facing conflict, insecurity, displacement, inequality and growing uncertainty, the search for peace can feel overwhelming. But peace has never been more urgent or more necessary.
Peace is more than the absence of war. It is the presence of safety, dignity, justice, opportunity, inclusion and cooperation in our everyday lives. It is the ability of children to learn without fear, women and girls to live with dignity, young people to see a future for themselves, and communities to resolve differences without violence.
This year’s theme, “Invest in Peace: For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day,” reminds us that peace is not built only at negotiating tables or during times of crisis. It is built in homes, schools, communities and institutions; through everyday actions and choices.
At @bridge_thatgap, we recognise the people who are building peace from the ground up: community leaders, women, young people, peacebuilders, traditional institutions, civil society actors and everyday citizens who choose dialogue over division and cooperation over conflict.
They are the everyday architects of peace.
Investing in peace means investing in people, inclusive communities, opportunities, dialogue, social cohesion and systems that allow everyone to participate and thrive.
Because lasting peace is not something we simply hope for.
It is something we build, together, every day. 🕊️
This International Peace Day, let us ask ourselves: What can I do today to make peace possible for someone else?

On August 27, I met with the Governors of our 36 States, and we agreed on a clear objective that from October 1, more Nigerians should begin to see measurable reductions in transportation costs.
An implementation committee for the National Affordable CNG Transit Programme was subsequently established under the auspices of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum @NGFSecretariat, chaired by the Governor of Kwara State and Chairman of the Forum, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq @RealAARahman.
I am aware of the considerable work already underway by the committee, PI-CNG & EV, the States, and other critical stakeholders to identify priority transport corridors, determine appropriate interventions, and put the necessary arrangements in place.
This work has become even more urgent in the face of the current global energy crisis.
🎉 HAPPY BIRTHDAY Dominic Julius!
Today, we celebrate not just your birthday, but the incredible person and valuable team member that you are.
Your dedication, positive spirit, and contributions to the team are truly appreciated.
May this new chapter bring you abundant joy, good health, meaningful achievements, and countless reasons to smile. May your efforts continue to make an impact, and may you have every reason to be proud of how far you’ve come.
From all of us at BTG, we say a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY! 🎊🎈

🌍 World Ozone Day
The ozone layer protects life on Earth. 🛡️☀️
High above us, the ozone layer absorbs much of the Sun’s harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation, helping protect people, animals, plants, and ecosystems.
The good news? Collective action works. Global efforts to phase out ozone-depleting substances have helped put the ozone layer on a path to recovery.
This World Ozone Day, let’s remember that protecting our atmosphere is protecting our future.
🌱 Support environmentally responsible practices.
💡 Use energy wisely.
♻️ Make sustainable choices.
📢 Share knowledge and inspire action.

🌍 FROM FRONTLINE COMMUNITIES TO GLOBAL CLIMATE TABLES
Our Executive Director, Gloria Bulus, represented Bridge That Gap Initiative (BTG) at the African Civil Society Forum on Nature, Climate and Environmental Governance, held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 11–14 September 2026.
Organised by the @WWF and thr @UNEP_Africa, the Forum brought together African civil society actors, Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities, women and youth constituencies to strengthen Africa’s voice ahead of critical global environmental processes, including COP31, COP32, CBD COP17 and UNCCD COP17.
Gloria also served as a panelist on Mobilizing Towards Climate COP31 & 32: Partnering with African Civil Society to Deliver a COP for Africa and the World.
Responding to discussions on the underrepresentation of women, youth and local communities in climate negotiations, she emphasised a critical reality:
Climate decisions cannot be meaningful if the people living with the impacts are missing from the decisions.
Drawing from the realities of communities in Northern Nigeria, she highlighted the need to move beyond consultation towards meaningful participation, stronger community representation, locally grounded evidence, inclusive financing and accountability.
For communities facing the combined pressures of climate change, environmental degradation and insecurity, global commitments must translate into practical action that improves livelihoods, strengthens resilience and protects people and ecosystems.
As Africa looks towards COP32 in Ethiopia, the message is clear: the bridge between global climate commitments and local action must be built with communities, not merely for them.
🌱 Acting Locally, Creating Global Impact.

At the heart of every humanitarian response are people, and the systems designed to support them must listen to those closest to the realities on the ground.
Yesterday, September 10th, @bridge_thatgap joined stakeholders from North West Nigeria at a One-Day Zonal Conversation on Nigeria’s Humanitarian Reset, convened by Christian Aid Nigeria.
The conversation provided a platform for Local and National NGOs, humanitarian and development actors, civil society organisations, networks and other stakeholders to reflect on Nigeria’s evolving humanitarian architecture and the transition towards stronger government-led coordination.
From localisation and government leadership to financing, coordination and accountability, stakeholders explored what Nigeria needs to retain, strengthen, change or add as it moves towards a more nationally led and locally driven humanitarian system.
A key focus was ensuring that Local and National NGOs have meaningful roles in humanitarian coordination, decision-making and implementation, while addressing the financing, institutional and operational barriers that can limit locally led action.
Through thematic discussions, participants developed practical recommendations around power and voice, partnership and accountability; local leadership and coordination; and financing and operational enablers for locally led humanitarian action.
For us at BTG, meaningful localisation is more than a policy conversation. It is about ensuring that local actors and affected communities have a meaningful voice in shaping the humanitarian systems that respond to their realities.
The recommendations from the zonal conversations will contribute to Nigeria’s National Position Paper on the Humanitarian Reset and inform further engagement with the Federal Government and other humanitarian stakeholders.
When local voices shape the response, humanitarian action becomes more relevant, accountable and responsive to the communities it serves.

@bridge_thatgap participated in the Planning and Budget Commission One-Day Dialogue on Kaduna State’s Q2 2026 Budget Performance and the Draft 2027 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF).
The dialogue provided an important platform for stakeholders to review the state’s budget implementation, assess progress across key sectors, and engage with emerging priorities for the 2027–2029 fiscal framework.
During the engagement, the Kaduna State Planning and Budget Commission presented the 2026 Q1/Q2 budget implementation report, highlighting revenue performance, expenditure execution, capital spending, and allocations to priority sectors including education, health, agriculture, and infrastructure.
The Commission also presented the key assumptions and fiscal priorities underpinning the 2027–2029 MTEF, including measures aimed at strengthening capital investment and aligning resource allocation with the Kaduna State Development Plan and the SUSTAIN Agenda.
This engagement provided BTG with an opportunity to reaffirm its commitment to citizen participation, transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance. We recognise that access to timely and reliable information is essential to empowering citizens, strengthening participation, and building more informed and resilient communities.
We look forward to stronger budget implementation that is inclusive, responsive, and delivers tangible impact for Kaduna communities in the months ahead.

🌍 FROM GLOBAL COMMITMENTS TO LOCAL ACTION: WHAT DO THE RIO COPs MEAN FOR KADUNA?
At the second edition of Climate Lens in Kaduna (CLIK) 2026, journalists, civil society organisations (CSOs) and government stakeholders came together to examine a critical question:
What do global climate and environmental commitments actually mean for communities in Kaduna?
Climate and environmental issues may be debated in conference halls around the world, but their impacts are being felt right here at home.
From land degradation and desertification to biodiversity loss, declining soil fertility, pollution and climate-related livelihood challenges, the challenge is no longer simply about making global commitments.
The real question is:
👉🏾 How are these commitments translating into action, funding and measurable change for communities in Kaduna?
With the world engaging with major environmental processes in 2026, including UNCCD COP17 on land and desertification, CBD COP17 on biodiversity, and UNFCCC COP31 on climate action, CLIK 2026 focused on helping journalists understand the issues, opportunities and accountability questions behind these global commitments.
🔎 Our lenses spotlighted:
🌱 Which communities are most affected by desertification and land degradation?
🌳 Why is Kaduna outside Nigeria’s designated Great Green Wall frontline states despite facing significant environmental pressures?
👩🏾🌾 How are farmers, pastoralists and women affected by changing land and environmental conditions?
🌿 What community-led restoration initiatives are already making a difference?
🦋 What is happening to Kaduna’s forests, wildlife, rivers and ecosystems?
💰 How much is being invested in environmental protection, restoration and climate action?
📊 What environmental data exists, and what critical information is still missing?
🗣️ Are communities meaningfully involved in environmental planning and decision-making?
The commitments may be global, but the impact is local.
At Bridge That Gap Initiative (BTG), we believe journalism can serve as a bridge — connecting international promises to the lived realities of communities, interrogating implementation, amplifying local voices and holding decision-makers accountable.
📍 CLIK is about enabling Kaduna journalists to tell stories that go beyond COP headlines — stories that ask the most important question:
“What does this mean for us?”

My work is rooted in one simple belief: communities should never be left out of the decisions that shape their lives.
Across communities, people carry wisdom, experience, and solutions that deserve to be heard beyond local spaces.
For me, leadership means creating room for dialogue, trust, and collaboration, especially between communities, traditional institutions, and decision-makers.
This is not just about speaking for people; it is about ensuring that people are empowered to speak for themselves.
Every conversation, every partnership, and every action brings us closer to a future where peace is sustained, resilience is strengthened, and no community is left behind.
I remain committed to advancing inclusive engagement, amplifying community voices, and supporting solutions that reflect the realities of the people.
Because real transformation begins when local voices become part of the bigger picture..
I am Gloria Kasang Bulus, and together, we are bridging the gap.
