What Airline Passengers Need to Know:

🇺🇸 United States:

US DOT issued a final rule requiring airlines to automatically issue refunds without passengers having to explicitly request them or jump through hoops.

These rules took effect October 28 2024 — automatic refunds are required if your flight is cancelled, and must be processed within 7 business days for card payments.
This applies to ALL airlines operating in the US — including Royal Jordanian flying from Dulles.

European Union — EU261:

Under EC Regulation 261/2004 passengers are entitled to financial compensation of up to €600 per passenger for cancellations within the airline’s control, in addition to full refunds. It applies to any flight departing from an EU airport regardless of the airline.

United Kingdom:

The rules for extraordinary circumstances, duty of care, refunds, and notification are identical to EU261 — same framework, converted to GBP and enforced by UK regulators.
