"Our bond is just crazy, always joking around in the group chat, go out to eat…stuff like that…building that bond off the court helps on the court"
–– Mitchell Robinson podcast from Tuesday––1 day after winning ECF & 2 days before the news on his pinky––which looked OK here
I’ll never forget in 2018-19 we suffered another brutal season (17-65), but there was one guy keeping me watching every single game.
It was a 7 foot monster who blocked and dunked everything.
8 years later he’s still here and we going to the finals 🥺
This is “You hate to see them go, but you’re glad they were here” type moment…
Congratulations Coach Ayla Guzzardo. You most definitely gave alot of Louisiana kids an opportunity to play Division I basketball.
Go Dawgs!
Geno Auriemma shares a must-listen on body language and how he coaches it.
"We put a huge premium on body language."
"If your body language is bad, you will never get in the game. Ever. I don't care how good you are."
Your body language screams. It sets the tone for yourself and others.
It starts with your posture, your eye contact, and your energy. They're always communicating something - whether you realize it or not.
And here's why this matters more than ever:
"Recruiting enthusiastic kids is harder than it's ever been. Every kid watches TV, and they watch the NBA or the NFL and what they see is people just being really cool. So they think that's how they're gonna act."
The attitude comes before the ability.
"Recruiting kids that are really upbeat and loving life and love the game and have this tremendous appreciation for when their teammates do something well - that's hard. That's really hard."
He proved he means it with one of his best players:
"Somebody says, 'Well, you benched Stewy for 35 minutes in the Memphis game.' Yeah, I did. Stewy was acting like a 12-year-old, so I put her on the bench and said, 'Sit there.'"
No exceptions. Not even for All-Americans.
"I'd rather lose than watch kids play the way some kids play. I'd rather lose."
That's the standard his teams live.
"When I watch game film, I'm checking what's going on on the bench. If somebody's asleep over there, if somebody doesn't care, if somebody's not engaged in the game - they will never get in the game, ever."
Body language isn't a small thing. It's everything.
It's taking ownership of yourself, your attitude, and your actions.
It represents how you want to be as a teammate.

The best players are the players that absolutely love the game.
Yes, they love it.
It's what they want to do.
It's their outlet, it's their fun, it's their hobby.
They love the practice, they love the preparation, they love the team concept, they love being part of a team, they love the grind, they love competition.
They love the game.
Great teams are overflowing with players that love the game.
Coaches want to coach players that love the game.

Nick Saban explains why you're not entitled to anything in life.
"You get up every day, you're entitled to: Nothing."
"Nothing is acceptable, but your best."
You get what you earn in life. That's it.
No one owes you success, opportunity or playing time. Those are things you earn.
Show up, do the work, and earn it every day - not because you're told to, but because that's the standard you hold yourself to.
Your thoughts drive what you want - your actions drive what you get.
The gap between the two? That's where most people fail.

DEVELOPING MENTAL TOUGHNESS
"You get mental toughness because things are hard. You've got to embrace hard.
Tough times make hard people. Easy times make soft people...
You've gotta learn to overcome things that are hard." (Nick Saban)
Hang around two lazy people, you’ll become the third.
Hang around two cheaters, you’ll become the third.
Hang around two dropouts, you’ll become the third.
Hang around two CHAMPIONS, you’ll become the third.
Moral of the story?… Your circle matters!

On this day, the very global game of Basketball was invented by Dr. James Naismith in Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1891. 134 years!! So thankful for what this game has brought me & so thankful that it continues to bring so many people together. Thank you very, very much Dr.! 🇺🇸
The 10 Truths Parents Rarely See
1. Coaches lose sleep.
2. Decisions aren’t personal.
3. Playing time is complex.
4. Culture matters more than stats.
5. Accountability is care.
6. Coaches invest emotionally.
7. Development isn’t instant.
8. Hard feedback is intentional.
9. Wins don’t tell the whole story.
10. Coaches remember kids forever.
Perspective matters.
High school basketball isn’t measured by banners in the gym.
It’s measured by the kid who learns how to lead.
The kid who shows up when it’s hard.
And the kid who looks back years later and says, *”That team changed my life.”*
